The future communities of Eleuthera and Harbour island depend on the children of today. EEO believes in giving children the opportunity to thrive and building their confidence through better academic and reading skills. Many children's needs are not met in school and they are pushed through classes without actually meeting the learning benchmarks. This results in frustration, resentment, lack of self-esteem, and socialization challenges.
That's where EEO steps in and works with one child at a time to discover their needs and talents. In EEO's 11 years of providing special education and literacy services on Eleuthera and Harbour Island, we have seen inspiring changes in over 700 hundred children. Children who were once afraid of consistently failing in school are now excited to learn and showing marked improvement in all areas. In addition, parents and communities are learning how to better support children with learning disabilities or other challenges through our monthly seminars and parent workshops.
During the 2010-11 EEO is working with over 120 children in 8 schools. We are grateful for the dedicated teachers, volunteers, and supporters who make our program a success. Please read on to see all of the exciting things happening and how you can become involved. |
