This year EEO is supporting 6 public schools throughout Eleuthera by giving much needed learning skills to over 70 students.  Three new teachers have also joined the EEO family.
-Emily Shook and Rashida Johnson are now at our reopened center in Weymss Bight.
-In Harbour Island Jennie Charles ,a Harbour Island  All Age School graduate,  is now teaching beginning reading.
-Our volunteers  helping either during school hours or at our afterschool reading club are: Joanna Etienne, Habour Island graduate,  Mr. Kelly, community supporter, and Cary Bittinger, movement and dance therapist .
We are very grateful for the wonderful talents each of these individuals brings to EEO.
Seminars and Parent Workshops by Gaby Hudson

The month of September, EEO staff enjoyed literacy training with Literacy Coach, Emily Deliddo from Colombia University. We are now putting new strategies in place in the classrooms.  The outcome has been fantastic!  EEO also hosted workshops with Emily DeLiddo including a Teacher Workshop in Weymss Bight and Parent Workshop and in-class teacher training in Harbour Island.  Some of these workshops will soon be available to all on our new training campus.  (http://eeo.trainingcampus.net).  This is just the beginning, We're looking forward to the rest of the 2010-2011 school year!

Making a Difference by Jennie Charles
jennie "I've been working with four students in fourth grade . The class was assigned to read the story "Wobbling People". I'd been reading the story to them and they have read it back to me. When we went back to class and the teacher put a word up on the board and asked "who knows what this word is?" Out of nowhere, one of my students raised his hand but the teacher didn't pick him right away waiting to see if anyone else knew it. But no one raised their hand. He was so happy with his hand raised high, he said "JOY!" That whole day I was so happy to see him teaching others in the class the words he had learned through his one to one time. I had never seen him so happy! I was proud of him and will work even harder to make sure he feels that way everyday"
What We Do......

What we do.....When a child is referred to EEO , we do our best to help that small person receive all the help they need to reach their potential.

EEO starts by providing hearing and vision screenings , ....we make sure that student gets daily small group reading remediation during the school day...., we bring in top quality professionals from international universities to  train  his/her homeroom teachers on ways to differentiate instruction so they can be helped in their mainstreamed class, .....We invite the parents to workshops on how to help that child at home, we bring in therapists and neurologists if that boy or girl needs more in-depth help...we offer afterschool programs and summer programs.... we send him home with books.... WE do all we can to help that child be the best he/she can be.
