Salute to Scott AFB Family Picnic and Business Expo

Our 18th annual Salute to Scott Family Picnic and Business Expo was a great success!

On Saturday, June 9th, the O'Fallon Community Park welcomed over 5,000 base-related people from Scott AFB.  The picnic was sponsored by the O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber Military Affairs Committee and the City of O'Fallon. It was held to thank the people of Scott Air Force Base for what they do in defense of our nation.

The family-friendly event was held at the O'Fallon Community Park, 308 East 5th Street. It was free to military personnel, their families and those associated with the base.

Happy Birthday, Scott AFB!
Scott AFB's 95th Birthday is tomorrow, June 14, the same day as Flag Day and the U.S. Army's birthday. It was aerial expert Albert Bond Lambert, the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Belleville Board of Trade who advocated for the establishment of Scott and, on June 14, 1917, negotiated a lease agreement with the War Department for 624 acres of land for what now is Scott AFB. Without our community friends and neighbors,
Scott AFB wouldn't be here. Thank you for 95 years of tremendous community support!! Happy Birthday Scott AFB!

Street Resurfacing Begins June 18th

Beginning Monday, June 18th, we will be performing asphalt street resurfacing to portions of Whitehall Drive, Bethel School Road and Lakeshore Court.  The time frame for these improvements is scheduled to take approximately one week and subject to change depending on weather and/or equipment failures.

Residents are asked to please park their vehicles in locations other than the street until the asphalt resurfacing work is complete.  During the overlay project, the ability to use the section of roadway under construction will be temporarily limited.  Please be aware that passage along this section may be impossible at times, but trash pick-up services, etc. will not be disrupted and normal access will be allowed during non-working hours. Extra caution should be taken during this time to avoid damaging the road along with other surrounding surfaces, such as your vehicle, due to the fresh oil that will be present.  Updates on this and other construction projects located throughout the City can be round on the City's web site under Other Announcements, Construction Updates http://www.ofallon.org/Public_Documents/OFallonIL_PublicWorks/index#Projects.

"We kindly ask our residents to be patient during the reconstruction of this much-needed project," said Mayor Gary Graham.  "To the maximum extent possible, we are trying to minimize the inconvenience caused by the project and are dedicated to making the situation as painless as possible.  However, it is impossible to completely eliminate all the frustration that drivers and citizens will experience and we ask for your understanding and patience."

Please direct questions or comments to the O'Fallon Engineering Department at 624-4500, Ext. 3.
