The Board meeting of July 21 was well attended and many residents expressed their thoughts, opinions, and questions. Most of the comments were made regarding the quality of food and conduct in the dining rooms. The consensus seemed to be that there are too many walkers in the aisles during dinner. These devices cause an obstruction for residents, guests, and wait staff. Many questions centered on the budget and the business plan for 2012.
There were two action items. The Board approve emergency chiller repair to be funded from the Capital Plan using funds already appropriated in the 2011 Reserve Expenditure Plan. In the second action item, the Board approved a Supplemental Appropriation in the amount of $1,000 for the purchase of larger, colored, numbered guest dinner tickets. These tickets will be easier to use as they are larger and easier to see. The numbering system will assist for accounting purposes.
The Brunch ticket price is $19. July attendance at brunch was 118 and 128.
Reminder from the Board:
The Board has requested that Staff review the current policies on leashes for dogs, rules for scooters (motorized wheelchairs), and dress code in the dining rooms. These policies will return to the Board for further discussion and approval.
In the meantime, guests, especially family are very important to lifestyle at the Towers. We don't always know how our guests will be dressed when they arrive. Please gently remind your family that shorts are not allowed to be worn in the dining rooms, and sports jackets are required in the Crystal Dining Room. Business casual attire is allowed in the California Room. A rule of thumb would be Country Club attire in the California Room and business attire to cocktail attire in the Crystal dining room. This is a gentle reminder for residents also. The Crystal Room is for more formal attire.
Tower II second floor public restroom - The restrooms are closed for renovation. Game tables are set up in Lounge II for those who wish to use this area for games but please be aware we are unable to rearrange the tables to accommodate different games or groups. This is a temporary situation, and we look forward to accommodating your needs very soon.
Since the laws regarding lead and asbestos have changed considerable over the last couple years, we need to do abatement of the tile in the restrooms. This will set back our progress by a few days. The new tile, new sinks, and new lighting have been ordered, and we look forward to these renovated restrooms being open by the end of September.
Scooters and motorized wheelchairs - The Board understands that the Towers was not built to accommodate all of the devices that are available on the market today. These devices make your life easier and much more efficient. However, the fact remains that the Towers doorways and elevators were not constructed with the size of these chairs in the analysis. Please be courteous on the elevators and do not drive the vehicles on "high" within the Towers. The Board requests that low speed be used especially when you travel the Galleria.
ASPHALT TIPS
If your car is in a carport, you do not have to move your car, but you cannot get out of your carport on the days that the slurry seal is being done around your car. Please plan ahead so that if you need to get to your car on the day the carports are slurry sealed, you can access your vehicle.
Please look for the colored maps that delineate the days that these areas will be slurry sealed.
Monday 8/1/11 - Drive areas on the extreme outside perimeter around the back of the Towers will be slurry sealed. The outside perimeter carports will not have access to their vehicles on this date. If you need to use your car on this date for a doctor's appointment or other business, you must vacate the carport prior to this date. Traffic behind the Towers will be hazardous.

On Monday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 2, walkways will be provided across the area being sealed for access to the Towers tunnels and staff maintenance building.
If we can maintain this schedule, the work will all be completed on Saturday morning, August 6 when the contractor will be opening up the area sealed on Friday.
The work is scheduled to be finished on Saturday, August 6. Just in time for the Open House on August 11!
Invite your friends to the Hoedown on August 11. This is the day of a resident party in Lortscher Hall and the Open House for visitors interested in the Towers Lifestyle. In this day of modern technology with glass and steel construction, the Towers offers a "candle in the window", a warm inviting environment where friends and family can meet! Share your story with a guest; tell them what you like about the Towers.
