Board News -
On Thursday, April 21 the Board met for their regular meeting. The only action items were one lien and approval of a vendor to conduct the reserve study. A vendor who specializes in mid- and high-rise facilities will conduct a study of all of the major components of Mutual Fifty. This study becomes a basis for the budget plan. The study is conducted by law every three years. The Board then approves a 30-year plan, which considers timely replacement of major components while maintaining an approved Reserve Fund baseline. (Tuesday's agenda meeting was canceled.)
In an effort of the Board to be responsive to needs and requests of the residents, President Rothberg informed those present that the fire doors in the California Room would have sunscreen installed for those times of the year when the sun is directly in line with dining tables. She announced a tour of some of the refurbished Mutual owned units. The Board also has incorporated a "try before you buy" project. This project allows short term leases for individuals who are considering a long term lease or purchase in the Towers. This gives an opportunity to meet new neighbors, try food selections, and generally adapt to Towers Lifestyle before making a commitment. Several units have been leased or sold by individuals who first came for a week or two.
President Rothberg announced the beginning work of the Nominating Committee. Two Directors' terms will end in January 2012. The Committee will begin the process of finding qualified members with the time and energy to serve on the board for a three-year term. If any member is interested in speaking with the committee, that member should contact the Towers Administration Office on the second floor of Tower I.
The Reception Desk remodel is progressing very well with the new counter and work station surfaces coming in before the end of April. Prepare for a dramatic change!
The Brunch ticket price is $19 beginning in June. Children under 14 are still $8.
Dining Service - There may be some misunderstanding with regard to Towers Food Service. Items ordered from the left hand side of the menu, or those not featured as specials may take longer to prepare than the featured specials. The kitchen will make every effort to serve everyone at the table at the same time but it is important to remember that some items take longer to prepare than others. Please be clear when ordering so the server knows the portion size you desire. The kitchen is not equipped to handle short orders of items not featured as specials. |

Stress relief from laughter? Yes, no joke!
Whether you're guiltily guffawing at an episode of "South Park" or quietly giggling at the latest New Yorker cartoon, laughing does you good. Laughter is a great form of stress relief, and that's no joke.
Short term benefits
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn't just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body.
Long term effects
Laughter isn't just a quick pick-me-up though. It's also good for you over the long haul. Laughter may:
- Improve your immune system-Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can impact your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.
- Relieve pain-Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers. Laughter may also break the pain-spasm cycle common to some muscle disorders.
- Increase personal satisfaction-Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.
Laughter is the best medicine...go ahead and give it a try. Turn the corners of your mouth up into a smile and then give a laugh, even if it feels a little forced.
Once you've had your little chuckle, take stock of how you're feeling. Are your muscles a little less tense? Do you feel more relaxed or buoyant? That's the natural wonder of laughing at work.
