CHAMBER CONNECTION: Week of January 9, 2012
Greetings from Pulaski County
Chamber of Commerce

Dear Member:

The Chamber is off to a great start for 2012! This week we will have our first meeting for those interested in Community Involvement at MK's on Wednesday, January 11th at 11:30 a.m. (this will be a Dutch treat lunch). We need some strong community-minded folks to particpate in this group as we look at our direction for 2012. We want to continue building on our relationships with the schools and ways to develop buy local attitudes! So roll up your sleeves and bring your ideas to the table so we can enhance the qualtiy of life in Pulaski county!

On another note, we have our first Business After Hours on January 26th at SunTrust in Fairlawn. This relationship-building event, "A Wintery Mix," is sponsored by ATK and Suntrust, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and will be caterered by Bull & Bones At The River! This should be a great event to kick off the new year!

Have a great week!

Call to Action
We have a lot of exciting plans for 2012, and we need YOUR participation to make it happen! If you understand the value of relationships in business, marketing, commitments, and follow through, we want you involved in one of three Action Groups. Choose the one that would best suit your expertise: community involvement, tourism, or membership. Meetings will begin in January (see info below). Please call the Chamber office and let us know which group you want to be a part of; we have a nice representation of members already for each of the groups, but would love to include YOU! Contact the Chamber office and let us know in which group you would like to participate: email sheilanelson@pulaskichamber.info.
Two of our ACTION GROUPS will be meeting in early January. Most people who signed up for each of them wanted a lunch meeting, so we have scheduled them accordingly. We will order from the menu and lunch will be a Dutch treat.
Think Tourism - Business to Business, Business to Public, Networking, Sales, Promotion
Join the Tourism Group on Wed., Jan. 18 at 11:30am, at Fatz Cafe in Dublin. Whether or not you have already signed up for these groups, any member is invited to attend. It is the first meeting for each and you will want to get in on the beginning of each group if possible. RSVP your attendance by the day before if possible so we will know what size table to reserve for our group. Call 540.674.1991 or email sheilanelson@pulaskichamber.info.
Support Your Community
We have major opportunities for you to get involved in the community: volunteer for the elementary school program, middle school reality day, and high school YEP Day. Influence the workforce of tomorrow. Or, control your health and get involved in Pulaski Fresh Farm-to-Table and support your local economy. Join the Community Involvement Group on Wed., Jan. 11 at 11:30am at MK's Pizzeria and Shoppe.

Send Us Your Legislative Concerns
Once again, on Wed. evening, Jan. 25, the Chamber will facilitate the Pulaski Co. Dinner for area legislators and elected officials (admission by invitation only) in Richmond. At this dinner as well as on Thurs. morning, Jan. 26, when we will be visiting the legislators in their offices, we will bring to their attention legislative concerns of our Chamber's membership. PLEASE FORWARD YOUR LEGISLATIVE CONCERNS TO THE CHAMBER OFFICE NO LATER THAN JAN. 16. We ahve received concerns already fromthe Town and the State Park. Businesses are also encouraged to send your concerns for discussion with the legislators. Email sheilanelson@pulaskichamber.info or peggywhite@pulaskichamber.info.

"Taking Stock in Yourself"

As we begin the New Year, many are looking for new and exciting things to explore in 2012. The most exciting thing, and the most important thing, however, that most of us need to explore during this traditional time of taking stock, is ourselves. There are a number of broad areas that could apply to everyone in every business; you will have to individualize them to suit yourself.

....to Livingston International which recently acquired HIPAGE (including the Dublin, VA office) in order to extend their customs and compliance expertise as well as their international freight forwarding capability; and,

Thought of the Week

"The MS Windows Car Story" (The Power of PR, Clever Publicity, Using Humor for Publicity, Don't Get Mad Get Even)

You may have seen this before as it's been widely circulated over the Internet. Whether it's true or not, it's a great example of the risks of arrogant PR, and then in response, fantastic PR that's utterly in tune with the mood  of the moment. Despite all this, a supremely powerful supplier can, while they remain supremely powerful, re-write the rules of customer service.
