CHAMBER CONNECTION: Week of January 2, 2012
Greetings from Pulaski County
Chamber of Commerce

Dear Member:

Happy New Year! Welcome to the most awesome year yet! Wait till you see what we have planned for you in 2012! No matter whether you are a small business, big business or industry, this Chamber has something for you! Are you ready for this?

The 2012 Business Expo will be held in conjunction with the New River Valley Airport's 50th Anniversary Celebration!  Not only will you have an exclusive VIP Reception with the same great business to business networking as usual, but you will also have the opportunity to showcase your business to an expected 20,000 people! The VIP will include a night time airshow, great food and beverage, and a performance by none other than The Worx! The airshow will not only be what is in the sky but what is on the ground! Look forward to a kids zone, car show, wine tasting "Just Plane Grapes" with our local wineries and so much more! We have already had people taking sponsorships and signing up for booths, so if you are interested sign up now or by the end of January if you don't want to miss out on this FANTASTIC  opportunity! It will sell out quickly!

If that isn't enough to get you excited wait till you hear about the awesome golf tournament we have planned for you on Friday, May 4th in one of the most beautiful surroundings in Pulaski County, the Pulaski Country Club! As always we have 8 am and 1 pm Captain's Choice shot-gun starts. "Playing A Round with The Worx"  will help you seal the deal! Look forward to great food, beverages and an evening listening to The Worx on the 19th hole! I have to tell you almost all the sponsorships are SOLD and people are already registering for teams so sign up now!

This year we grouped our sponsorships so that sponsors can get recognition all year at each event! Look below for info on that and sign up so you can receive a     discount!

If you are looking for a way to be a good community partner we have just the solution! We have listened to the needs of the community and our businesses and one of things we have discovered is that we need to work on influencing our upcoming workforce. How do we do that? We get heavily involved in our schools. We have programs for next year that will do just that from elementary to high school. We are also heavily involved in agriculture from community gardens to educational gardens to groups designated to promote local foods!

2012 can be a fantastic year for all our businesses, industries, non-profts and individuals IF we pull together,  work toward promoting, assisting, and supporting each other.

Call to Action
We have a lot of exciting plans for 2012, and we need YOUR participation to make it happen! If you understand the value of relationships in business, marketing, commitments, and follow through, we want you involved in one of three Action Groups. Choose the one that would best suit your expertise: community involvement, tourism, or membership. Meetings will begin in January (see info below). Please call the Chamber office and let us know which group you want to be a part of; we have a nice representation of members already for each of the groups, but would love to include YOU! Contact the Chamber office and let us know in which group you would like to participate: email sheilanelson@pulaskichamber.info.
Two of our ACTION GROUPS will be meeting in early January. Most people who signed up for each of them wanted a lunch meeting, so we have scheduled them accordingly. We will order from the menu and lunch will be a Dutch treat.

Thought of the Week

"The Wise Teacher and the Jar"

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar as full. They agreed it was. So the professor then picked up a box of small pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
