TRUST FUNDS FOR ANIMALS
Beginning October 1, 2009, Connecticut law allows, and Connecticut courts will recognize and enforce, trusts created for the care of pets. For some, this may seem like a frivolous way to spend money. But for many, this is good news. Prior to the law, the fate of one's pet(s) after one's death or incapacity was largely an uncertainty. Often, if there were no willing family members to care for the pet(s), it would be given to a local humane society or other animal control facility. Now, it is not only possible to provide funds for the care of your pet, but to also appoint a trust protector whose duty is to make sure the pet(s) are taken care of according to the trust document. If the trust protector thinks the trustee has violated the terms of the trust, he or she can petition the attorney general to file a petition in Superior Court. This trust document can be created alone, or as part of a Last Will and Testament.

The phone rings, you pick it up, and the caller identifies himself as an officer of the court. He says you failed to report for jury duty and that a warrant is out for your arrest. You say you never received a notice. To clear it up, the caller says he'll need some information for verification purposes -- your birth date, social security number, maybe even a credit card number.
This is when you should hang
up the phone. It's a scam.
