Updated School Payroll Data Available Online
Taxpayers in 11 Kansas districts can search 2012 payroll listings
October 2, 2012 - Wichita - More data has been posted to government transparency site, KansasOpenGov.Org, a project of Kansas Policy Institute. Payroll listings for 11 school districts are now available for taxpayers to search how their dollars are being spent. Andover, Blue Valley, Colby, Dodge City, Great Bend, Hays, Kansas City, Lawrence, Salina, Topeka, and Wichita all released the information is response to an open records request filed by KPI under the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA). This latest update to KansasOpenGov reflects official records from each governmental entity, as does all information on the website.

"This is a continued effort to put public information in the hands of taxpayers," said KPI president Dave Trabert. "Payroll listings for another ten districts will be added shortly, as well as checkbooks for all twenty-one districts for which this detailed information is provided."

Payroll data reflects total pay and includes item (e.g. cell phone allowance) that goes beyond base salary.

KansasOpenGov also has per-pupil spending and revenue information for all Kansas school districts, as well as student achievement, carryover cash balances, employment, and enrollment data.

Trabert concluded by saying, "The more parents, legislators and educators know about district finances, the better able they are to make informed decisions about making the best use of taxpayer dollars.  Total taxpayer support of Kansas public schools this year will set a new record at $5.757 billion, eclipsing the previous record set last year. This new data and other school information on KansasOpenGov.org will help Kansans know where that money goes."
