Kansas farmland prices hold pre-recession value

Kansas farmland values, so far, are holding on to pre-recession gains better than neighboring states, new research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City reveals.
One reason might be that Kansas prices seem less tied to buying for real-estate development or for agricultural recreation, said an Omaha, Neb. researcher who helped compile the report (Read more).  
 
Kansas tax revenues revert back to 2005 levels

Kansas state and local tax revenues during the 2009 third quarter were drop kicked back to about 2005 levels, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated.  Kansas tax revenues from July to September dropped approximately 10.3 percent from year-earlier levels to $1.47 billion, the bureau reported Tuesday in its latest Quarterly Summary of State and Local Tax Revenue report on tax collection trends across the U.S. That is the lowest third quarter reading for the state since 2005, when collections totaled $1.42 billion (Read More).

2010 Commission Report Presents Opposing Perspectives

The 2010 Commission's annual report to the 2010 Legislature asks for tax increases to provide more funding for K-12 education which, according to the report, "is the most important function of state government."  Commission member Stephen Iliff, author of the minority report from the commission, says the majority recommendations are, "little different from those of the paid education lobby." He contends the 2010 Commission has "... lost focus on the basic principles of government and economics on which our country and State were founded as well as the purpose for the 2010 Commission in the first place."  (Read more).

Americans for Limited Government Monday released the voting records of 91 Blue Dog "moderate" House Democrats on what ALG President Bill Wilson called "some of the most controversial votes of 2009."

Federal Election Commission fines Kansas Republican Party $500

The Kansas Republican Party paid a $500 fine in September to the Federal Election Commission for failure to file its April monthly report.
On Wednesday the FEC announced publication of enforcement case files dating back to 1975. While reviewing that press release the Kansas Watchdog discovered the FEC Enforcement Query System and the recent fine paid by the Kansas Republican Party (Read more).
