LETTER FROM BARBARA |
|||||||
We are thankful to all of you, without whom we could not have been so successful over the years. Our best wishes to you for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We wish everyone a bountiful and enjoyable Thanksgiving, but please remember all the families with children in our area who are so in need of food. You can still make a donation to the Capital Area Food Bank (www.capitalareafoodbank.org). On Sunday, we had almost 500 people here in the store for the Carla Cohen Tribute event. In addition, beNOW.tv, our online livestream partner; reports that over 1000 viewers joined us at the event by watching it through the miracle of technology—some of them as far away as Spain, Paraguay, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Bangladesh! If you want to see it, click here. There are slide shows in Carla's memory in two locations - one by our friend Bruce Guthrie who attends and photographs an astounding number of events in Washington D.C., and another on our store Flickr account which includes some photos from the Carla Tribute event. I hope our customers who were here recognized the tremendous energy and creativity that all our booksellers contributed to the event as their way of honoring Carla. They join me in wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. P&P HOLIDAY STOREWIDE MEMBER SALE Next weekend, Friday, December 3 through Sunday, December 5, is the Holiday Member Sale. All weekend long, nearly everything we currently have on our shelves will be discounted to Politics & Prose Members - and these discounts also apply to online purchases! (Some exclusions apply.) P&P members always receive 20% off purchases of event books, bestsellers, and other discounted items, even when shopping online. The sale offers 20% discounts on nearly all regularly stocked books, and 15% discounts on most CDs and DVDs. Come in early to have the best selection. Or shop online between December 3 and 5 and receive the same benefits! We are aware that Hanukkah starts before the sale. We want to remind you that all of our suggested gifts in the Holiday Newsletter will be discounted beginning Friday, November 27. In addition, all Hanukkah related items, cards, and gifts will also be discounted 20% through December 5th. HOLIDAY CATALOGUES The Politics & Prose 2011 Holiday Newsletter is now available online if you click the link. The printed catalogue should arrive in the store and be mailed to members this week. The Children and Teens' Department 2010 Book Favorites will be available and posted online soon. CARDS AND CALENDARS Holiday cards and 2011 calendars are disappearing quickly. Come soon to have the best selection.
As in past years, to make your holiday gift-giving easier, gift wrappers from the The Washington Literacy Council will be at the store from November 26 through December 26, every day from opening until closing. This is a joint endeavor between Politics & Prose - donating the space and wrapping papers - and The Washington Literacy Council - supplying the volunteers. Serving the Washington community for more than 45 years, WLC provides reading education and support to District adults with the most limited reading skills, greatest needs, and fewest resources. We suggest $1 donation per item to support this WLC fundraising campaign. Please support this wonderful cause while reducing your holiday preparations and making your gift giving easier! To sign up as a volunteer gift wrapper, contact Jennifer Durkin at WLCgiftwrap@gmail.com and put "P&P Wrap" in the subject line. FROM THE CHILDREN AND TEENS' DEPARTMENT Story time takes a hiatus during the winter holiday season. |
