Individually We Are a Drop, Collectively We Are an Ocean
Greetings!,
With Thanksgiving around the corner it brings to mind the things in our lives we are grateful for. To have shelter is a basic need. However, when we have a home to call our own its importance can be easily under appreciated. Having a home on Bainbridge has been getting more challenging. It's not news that times are tough. But what amazes me is the indelible strength our community shows in the face of difficulties. Difficult times, by nature, create opportunities to stretch ourselves, to focus on what is most important. We are doing more with less at HRB in order to keep people in their homes. It's not surprising that there's more need and less funding, and yet there is hope. In this climate of need, people are responding. More people know about HRB and the work we do to support housing. We've received more donations than ever before. They are also smaller donations, but the value is amplified. The quote "individually we are a drop, collectively we are an ocean" could not be more appropriate. Here at HRB, the appreciation for shelter is at the forefront of all we do. As we enjoy our families, friends and food this Thanksgiving, our appreciation also extends to you, those who give of themselves to help others in need. With gratitude, Ken Balizer, Executive Director

New Help for HomeShare Program
| | Penny Lamping joins HRB
HRB is happy to announce that longtime islander Penny Lamping has joined the team to spearhead HRB's HomeShare program.
With 17 years experience as an architectural designer, Lamping has a long history of housing advocacy on Bainbridge. Lamping served as an HRB board member from 1994 until 2005.
The HomeShare program matches people who have space available in their homes with people seeking housing. With this free service, homeowners benefit by gaining extra income or help around the house, while those seeking housing benefit from finding an affordable place to live. HRB provides support by screening applicants and matching them with local residents, which takes the burden off the homeowner and connects those seeking housing with resources they might not otherwise find. For more information on HomeShare contact either email Penny or call her at 842.1909 ext. #8.
