Message from Carl
Greetings!,
You most likely have heard the news that I will be stepping down as executive director of Housing Resources Board CLT at the end of October. As I say good-bye, I hope that all of you who have supported HRB and its efforts to bring more affordable housing to our community will redouble your commitment. There are several wonderful efforts underway to expand both numbers of homes available and access to those homes by a broader diversity of people. I hope to be able to stay a part of this community and assist in the great things that can happen with your support. I want to thank all of you who I now count as new friends and community partners for making this job both meaningful and fun! The best is yet to come . . . Carl Florea, Executive Director

High-Tech Homes Moved to Bainbridge Island

Donation will provide two new affordable homes
The two new "Sperling" homes made their way to Bainbridge Island last month. Lifted by crane off the top of the Rainier Tower in Seattle and trucked to the island, the homes will provide both affordable and sustainable housing.
The one-bedroom homes are made to stack one on top of the other and feature state-of-the-art green features including occupancy sensors to control lighting and heating, energy efficient appliances and a roof garden.
The homes are stored at the City transfer station until a site can be located for them. Our gratitude goes out to all those who helped with the move: Maxwell Silver Hammer Construction from Suquamish, ProBuild, Don Heppenstall, Tina Gilbert, Del Miller, David Cinamon, Tom Leigh and Ned Palmer. The homes were donated by Unico Properties thanks to Carol and Dale Sperling.

Thanks to everyone who made our 20th Anniversary Celebration a success throughout the month of October
The month of October was busy for HRB with several activities around our 20th anniversary. We'd like to thank several people for their help in making our celebration so successful: Celebration Event on Oct. 3rd: Town & Country Bakery for the best anniversary cake in the world (!); Tami Allen and Claudette Boudreaux with Whozyamama for the wonderful music; John Ellis for being an incredible MC; Sean Gabriel, Ariana Alexander-Devock, Erik Pedderson, David Cinamon, Karen Casey and Tessa Larkey for all their great help with promotions of this event; Julie Stone for her display of HRB history; Ed Kushner for speaking on the history of HRB and all the wonderful businesses who contributed to our raffle baskets. Carolyn Hart for all the logistic help and the team at Bainbridge Island Downtown Association for collaborating with us in so many ways. Recognition is also warranted for all the HRB staff and board support in helping with this celebration. Film Event: David Cinamon was a great help in organizing this event and special thanks go to Eagle Harbor Congregational Church as well as the Interfaith Council for their support. The Celebration continues! One way we've engaged the community is through our booklet "20 Things About Our Island home." This booklet is a way for us to get the Island talking about and celebrating our local character. We're grateful to Eagle Harbor Book Company and the Bainbridge Island Library for making these available throughout the month of October. You can still join the conversation online at "20 Things About Our Island Home."Check out what others are saying about our community and their responses to the "20 Things". |
