WDMA Unveils 2011 National Policy Agenda for the Window, Door and Skylight Industry

[Washington, DC] - The Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) today unveiled its comprehensive legislative and regulatory policy agenda for 2011.  As the nation's economy struggles to recover from the long-lasting effects of the recession on the housing and building industry, WDMA has outlined a number of policy positions that are top priorities of the window, door and skylight manufacturing sector for the 112th Congress.

"As the 112th Congress gets to work, America's window, door and skylight manufacturers stand ready to work with members on both sides of the aisle to advance policies that will revive the residential and commercial construction markets and protect and enhance the global competitiveness of our manufacturing sector," said Steve Sisson, WDMA Chairman and Vice President/General Manager of Karona, Inc. of Grand Rapids, Mich.  "WDMA's 2011 National Policy Agenda offers a blueprint for sound legislative, regulatory and code policies which we believe will carry out those goals.  We look forward to a productive dialogue with policymakers in Congress and the Administration to move them forward over the coming year."

The 2011 WDMA National Policy Agenda is divided into eight different policy areas:

  • Energy Conservation;
  • Building Codes;
  • Environmental Stewardship;
  • Building Safety;
  • Housing;
  • Product Supply;
  • Tax and Trade; and
  • Workforce Policy

WDMA is eager to work with policymakers to support fiscally sound policies that will spur job creation, and to undo or mitigate the effects of recent actions that overly burden manufacturers with more red tape and costly federal rules and regulations.  The 2011 National Policy Agenda will be distributed to all members of Congress and key Administration officials and will be used during WDMA members' visits with their elected representatives during the WDMA Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference on March 14-16 in Washington, DC.
