Creating opportunities for all to thrive

         e-Touch                                                                      August 2012

The August 28th Back to School distribution at IOCP was a testament to the heart and will of this amazing community. Determined to ensure that all of our kids go back to school with school supplies that they need to succeed, our "whole village" stepped up once again to make it happen. Backpacks full of school supplies were distributed to 683 students.  An anticipated straggler distribution will increase that number by another 100 students.

Volunteers from Target, Kohl's, YPO, and Michael Foods lent heft and dignity and an amazing efficiency to the process as well as in-kind donations of supplies. Community drop sites helped recruit and collect supplies: Bob's Shoe Repair, M&I Bank, Dunn Brothers, McQuay/West Financial, the Marsh, and Ridgedale Mall.

And people--one family, one person, one child, one business, one church, one civic group at a time--came by with their donations of supplies or funds to help purchase what was lacking in donations, including calculators. Simply amazing.

Another play on the loaves and fishes miracle of what can happen in a community that has discovered what it cares about. Heartfelt thanks to all.

Welcome! New Staff to Tackle Greater Need

It has been a summer of change for staff at IOCP, and we are happy to announce the arrival of three new case managers. From left to right, we welcome Alli Aker, Kai Anderson, and Ashley Lanigan. Since moving to Plymouth, IOCP has seen a 12% increase in clients served. It will be an exciting fall as we add more capacity to our staff.

Learning for a Lifetime a Success!

Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

On Thursday, Aug.16, more than 100 supporters gathered to participate in three interactive sessions about IOCP's educational programs. Participants got to see firsthand the journey of a client seeking help from the following: Caring for Kids Initiative (early childhood education), CONECT (school-aged learning opportunities), and Employment services.

One attendee wrote a kind note expressing that everyone in our community should know the resources that are available. If you feel the same, or would like to support lifelong learning, please consider furthering IOCP's education initiatives by donating and select 'Learning for a Lifetime' from the dropdown menu. Thank you!
Back to School and Ready to Learn

Our Back to School Giveaway wrapped up with distribution Aug. 28, and IOCP thanks everyone involved for your incredible work! Thanks to your generosity, nearly 800 children in our community will start school this fall with adequate supplies to learn and have fun.

A big thanks to our partners (Rainbow, Target, Kohl's, Michael Foods), our drop sites (Bob's Shoes, M&I Wayzata, Dunn Bros-Plymouth, The Marsh, West Financial, Ridgedale), and all donors and volunteers!
