Creating opportunities for all to thrive

         e-Touch                                                                      June 2012

Despite recent encouraging reports in the news, employment is still a big challenge for two-thirds of the people IOCP serves. Hard to pay the rent and feed the family with no income. Even harder to pay medical bills without insurance.

So it was heartening to see 200 ready-to-work, skilled individuals--many of them graduates of IOCP's employment program--and 27 area employers and trainers talking to each other at our recent Job Fair.

As one job seeker said, "It's great to be able to talk face-to-face with a person from the company I'm applying to."

A special thanks to all the employer and training partners who, like this whole community, know the value of creating opportunities for everyone to thrive.

Coming Soon: Open Your Heart Challenge

During the month of July, IOCP will participate in the "Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless" campaign, run by Hunger Solutions Minnesota. This challenge is based on the belief that every Minnesotan should be "free from hunger and homelessness." Hunger Solutions will match what we raise next month as a grant to our food shelf. IOCP asks you to bring in cash donations to help us reduce hunger in our community!

Drop off your donation M-F, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at IOCP's Family Service and Learning Center throughout July. Thank you!

Learning for a Lifetime

From our summer preschool to Continuing Education classes and job training, IOCP incorporates life-long education into many of our programs. We'd like to share these opportunities with you!

On Aug. 16, participants get the chance to follow an IOCP family story through interactive stations. Observe firsthand how IOCP fosters education and training so families have the tools they need to succeed. The event is free, but please register by Aug. 10.

Session one: 10-11:30 a.m.* (Includes child care and a separate service activity for older kids)

Session two: 5:30-7 p.m. (for ages 16+)

We'd love to see you there! For more information, email Jill Kohler or call her at 763-489-7512.

In My Words

"I can't thank IOCP enough for helping me land not just one, but two, jobs. I walked into the interview not knowing what would happen, but the employer was especially impressed with the soft skills training I had from IOCP. He ended up offering me a job at the end of the interview."
