October 2011

For every season there is a time...and this is it for our Holiday Adopt-a-Family program, beautiful fall weather notwithstanding. To date, 443 local families have registered for our holiday gift assistance and so far 185 have been adopted. We still need 258 sponsors.

Our hope is to have all of our families adopted no later than mid-November, to give adopters just a couple of weeks to shop, wrap, and drop off their gifts at IOCP by Dec. 9 and 10, for distribution to families on Dec. 11.

Traditionally, individuals and families, employee groups and churches, civic groups and book clubs and bowling leagues and all kinds of folks have found participating in the Adopt-a-Family program one of the most rewarding ways to celebrate the holidays. Sign up online or call 763-489-7517 for more information. Thank you, friends.

Sleep Out Marks 16th Year
Campaign addresses suburban poverty

In our community alone, 1,500 families need help and hope. Help with the basics, like housing, employment, child care, food, and transportation. And hope for a brighter, more stable future.

Now in its 16th year, the Sleep Out has become this community's response to the growing need around us. "Helping Families, Creating Hope" is the theme for this year's campaign, which runs Nov. 12-Dec. 31. Learn more.

In addition to the more than 3,000 individual supporters of the Sleep Out, area churches, businesses, schools, and civic organizations will join the effort. Be part of something good!

NOTE: A gift made on Wednesday, Nov. 16, through givemn.org (as part of Give to the Max Day) will be matched up to $150,000. Make that the day to support the families in our community who need help. Go to iocp.org for a direct link on that day to double your donation!

Businesses Learn about IOCP
Discussion focused on partnerships, collaboration

Food Shelf tourMore than 80 representatives from area businesses came to IOCP Oct. 20 to tour the new facility and learn how they can collaborate with IOCP for mutual benefit. A common question: "How can we get involved?"

Special thanks to Peg Rasmussen of Countryside Catering for a delicious lunch.

The mission of IOCP is to engage the heart and will of the community to respond to emergency needs and create opportunities for all to thrive.
