Everyone's
talking about it...whether its the local media, your nervous
mother-in-law, other parents in your neighbourhood or the public health nurses, H1N1 is the main topic of conversation lately.
And whether its
the CDC, your family doctor or naturopath, or the anti/pro-vaccination
crowds, the information and advice are as varied as the treats in my kids' halloween bags. "Vaccinate"... "Don't vaccinate"..."Only do it if they have an underlying medical condition"... "I'm going to start wearing a mask"..."Maybe I'll home school"..."Gargle with salt water"...and my personal favorite "don't eat bacon".
In one day last
week, I got 14 emails from friends with advice attributed (falsely, it
appears) to Dr. Oz about preventing H1N1.
I admit it, I'm confused. Everyone's got an anecdote about their own experience with flu shots (me included); rumours abound about the absence of 10 kids from my teacher husband's Grade 5 classroom, and I swooped into Mama Bear mode to make sure my 2 year old's claims of being "weally hot" the other night were solely attributed to the 20lb Winnie the Pooh costume she was wearing, not some aggressive virus who didn't want her to partake in the annual night of gluttony.
I'm just going to have to keep googling, reading and getting input from the experts in my life who I've trusted with other health issues, and do the one thing that I often forget to do - trust my "mommy" instinct to make good decisions.
Good luck in reaching your own answers on H1N1.

And introducing the "Germinator"...
We'd
be terrible capitalists if we didn't even mention a fabulous product to
drop in your bag for times when you are not near soap and water (since
washing your hands frequently seems to be the one thing that health
care practitioners agree on.)
The Germinator (with all due respect
to Arnold) is made of natural grain alcohol, witch hazel, organic aloe
vera, distilled water, glycerin, essential oils of peppermint and tea
tree.
 Shake
well
and apply a small amount to your hands and rub vigorously until dry.
Great for the soccer field, playground, and shopping buggy. Use like
you would Purell but without the chemicals! Made by Nasty Free Naturals in Port Moody60ml spray bottle $9.95

Eco-friendly Cleaning
October 23rd, 2009
We came across this great tip list on the site Come Clean Naturally
- a Vancouver based cleaning service. Everyday ingredients to clean
all your everyday "stuff". Every Little Bit carries several lines of cleaning products,
but we wanted to share this list with you too! Thanks to the team at
Come Clean Naturally for letting us use this informative resource.
Eco-friendly cleaning ingredients
- Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate): a non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner. Cleans, removes stains, deodorizes and softens fabrics.
- Borax (sodium borate): a natural mineral that kills bacteria and
mold. As an alternative to bleach, it deodorizes, removes stains and
boosts the cleaning power of soap...
