The dysfunction of government is amazing. I am not against big or small government. It's the polarization between the two. Republicans and Democrats on extreme ends seem to be running things.
I have seen government waste, but . . . I also see private sector waste. Neither is immune and a common ground needs to be reached where the two can work together.
I heard a State Republican Governor declare that we need a healthcare bill that is a compromise. How about one that works? I am disappointed in either parties ability to understand how to improve and I am yet to hear someone with a systems thinking perspective in the political arena.
So here are this month's blog posts about government:
I read Governing.com on a somewhat regular basis. The ideas there are all main stream command and control thinking. The Ash Institute is my favorite whipping boy as the former Mayor of Indianapolis Stephen Goldsmith advocates everything that is counter to systems thinking like competition, outsourcing and shared services. If he only knew the damage of his thinking.
The next government post is around monitoring and inspection which is always a bad idea for government or business. These activities raise costs and prevent nothing. A better design of work and government management thinking would make more sense.
The mass school firings in Rhode Island have been in the news both national and local. Let's fire everybody that will make the system better, this is the height of ignorance. It's the system, stupid!!
