Football Video Correction: Several people pointed out that the Youtube video of the undefeated Einstein football team at  was of the 1962 team. The great 1967 team was not undefeated, but the baseball team that year was undefeated.

Randy Kurty '69 wrote "I think maybe I can shed a little light on the question of which year's team is highlighted in the video that he sent to you. The video is labeled correctly, the team in question is definitely the '62 team. I remember hearing war stories about them, from the first year that Einstein competed as a Varsity squad in the county, and the dates shown on the newspaper clippings that are in the video confirm 1962. Rick Eisenacher, Doug Brasse, Steve Farrell, Mark Slater (brother of Kevin Slater, '69), Tom Cardy (brother of Nick Cardy, '69) were all Seniors on the '67 team, but wouldn't have been in the '62 video. The Richards that was in the video was Dickie Richards, (brother of Bobby Richards, '69.) Dickie, by the way, went to UMD on a baseball scholarship, and ended up playing several years in The Bigs.

The 1967 football team, though loaded with the talent that Don references and that our school has not seen since, was not undefeated. In the opening game of the '67 season, we played Kennedy in the first Varsity game of their history, after they had played a season or two on a JV schedule, and beat them 73-6. Several games later, Richard Montgomery, our big rival, took out Rick Eisenacher on a late hit. He missed the rest of that game and a couple after that. Steve Farrell moved from wide receiver to quarterback and filled in admirably while Rick was hurt. Our final record, though, was 6-4.

It was in fact the '67 baseball team that was undefeated, at 17-0, and won the Montgomery County Championship that year. At the time, there was no state-wide playoff system in place, so the County level was as far as we could go. Rick Eisenacher threw two no-hitters that season, one against BCC in the regular season, the second one coming in the Championship game at Wheaton Regional vs. Northwood. We won 1-0, as I remember, and it was as tense and exciting a defensive battle as one would ever want to see. Just the kind of game that Coach Keller loved, and had worked so hard to teach us. I was fortunate enough as a sophomore to have been a member of both teams.

Though not undefeated, our '69 baseball team also won the County Championship. With Pat Berbakos, Bobby Richards, Nick Cardy, Gary Maites, Tom Phelps, Steve Woltz, Dave Barnhart, Mike Guidara, and myself, our '69 Seniors were well represented. (I hope I remembered everybody) I would have to say that '69 Championship was probably Coach Keller's greatest accomplishment. Though talented, our skill-level was not equal to that '67 squad. Coach pushed us and motivated us and we played to a level that no one had any right to expect, and we were able to win the Championship."

Thanks, Randy, for this informative and detailed correction of the record and thanks to everyone else who pointed out that the video posted was actually that of the 1962 football team!!

Catherine Cappiello Nowicki '70 has recently completed shooting her first film! The working title is "Yellow Day" and it will be released in 2013. Her character's name is Mrs. Donelas. Cathy points out that her 15 seconds of movie fame were exciting and being on set location in Mobile, Alabama, was thrilling. She only hopes that she doesn't end up on the cutting room floor!

Cathy wrote "When I arrived and they had not only a hotel room for me but a trailer with my name on it on location, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! It was a wonderful, humbling, and educational experience. The people couldn't have been nicer and I felt that all my years in theatre prepared me for being on the big screen!" It took four days to shoot her part, not because she messed up, but because that's the nature of the film and shooting outdoors. The director is Carl Lauten of "The Cosby Show" fame, and Drew Seeley plays the lead. The two cameras used had been used to shoot "Midnight in Paris" and "Hugo!".

Nancy Day Sakaduski '70 has had her most recent book, Scientific English: A Guide for Scientists and Other Professionals (co-authored by Robert A. Day) published by Greenwood Press. Congratulations, Nancy!!
