Hall of Fame Seeks Help On Vital Security Project

To All Members and Friends of the Einstein Community,

We invite you to join the Albert Einstein Athletic Hall of Fame in addressing a critical need to protect the school's athletic complex. The Hall of Fame is raising funds to construct a security fence that will restrict vehicular access to playing and practice fields behind the school.

The security fence, to be erected at key access points, is desperately needed to protect the stadium field and softball and baseball fields.  Einstein lacks the security fencing common at other Montgomery public schools, and the school's fields repeatedly have been vandalized, even as school officials, parents and friends have worked to upgrade facilities.

While the Einstein community can take pride in a completely refurbished softball field, a well maintained football field and newly-sodded baseball field, the raw scars of tire tracks from vandals tearing up the outfield this spring is a sad reminder that our field complex is vulnerable. It's just the latest instance of unauthorized vehicles damaging school property in recent years.

Last year, the Hall of Fame took the lead in trying to find a solution.  Hall of Fame Chairman Bob Owens asked Pat Berbakos, AEHS Class of 1969, to meet with Einstein officials and school system administrators to discuss construction of a security fence. School administrators said they could approve a fence, but with the deepening recession, they couldn't fund it. Given the constraints in the county schools budget, they didn't believe this project would receive any funding in the foreseeable future. As you may know from local news headlines, cutbacks inthe school system budget have grown sharper in the last few months.

Baseball fields Damage  With acts of vandalism continuing, the Hall of Fame didn't want to wait years for the situation to stabilize. We first reached out to the Einstein Boosters, who are ready to contribute funds to help pay for the project. But with an estimated price tag of $5,500 for a vinyl-coated chain-link fence, the Hall of Fame also needs YOUR help.

We are asking for donations of $100, $75, $50 or $25.  You can write-in any amount you want to donate, and no amount is too small.  You can make your donation on-line by Clicking Here or send a check made out to AEHS Hall of Fame and mail it to the following address, AEHS Security Fence Project 1135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington, MD 20895 (Tear-off Reply Form below).

The money will go towards construction of a four-feet high, black chain-link fence that will have locked gates to control vehicular access onto the fields. MCPS officials recently gave approval to proceed with the project. The Hall of Fame is working with Tri-County Fence on the fence installation.

The Hall of Fame is proud of its efforts to establish a strong network with Einstein alumni over the last four years. Now, we want to alert you that there's a task that urgently needs your assistance. We hope alumni will enthusiastically support this effort to provide secure, well-maintained facilities for our current Einstein student athletes. Titans, please help us protect the special place that is Einstein High School and give generously

The Hall of Fame thanks you!

Sincerely,

Bob Owens
