HALL OF FAME HELPS TITAN BASEBALL TEAM PREPARE FOR 2009 SEASON
The Titan baseball team is working hard in the off-season to get ready for the 2009 season. Assistant baseball coach Pat Berbakos, AEHS graduate class of 1969 arranged, through the support of the AEHS Athletic Hall of Fame for a personal trainer to come to the school and work with the players on exercises to help avoid injury to the muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff that are easy to injure and prone to wear and tear.

on performing the band exercise Keith Dickey, better known as the "Sarge," owner of Body Energy One on One Personal Training (www.body-energy.com) has an extensive background in fitness as a former Marine Corps Sergeant. He has many training certifications along with a degree in Exercise Science from Montgomery College. Keith has experience with post rehabilitation, sports conditioning, weight management and overall fitness.During the training session Keith provided an overview of the various muscles and tendons that support the shoulder with specific emphasis on the rotator cuff where so many baseball players have problems. He demonstrated several exercises using weights, elastic bands and stretches that focus on strengthening the shoulder and rotator cuff with the goal of avoiding rotator cuff and shoulder injury. All of the players performed each of the exercises and were provided individual instruction from Keith to ensure that the exercise was performed properly to maximize the results. "I think all of the guys were surprised about how little weight you need to strengthen the targeted muscles in the shoulder" said coach Berbakos. "It's more about completing the number of reps using a lighter weight" added Keith. "If your arm gets tired before completing the exercise reps, you are using to much weight."

Keith passed-out a handout to each of the players to take home with them that provided information about the shoulder and rotator cuff, and information on the exercises demonstrated at the session. He asked the guys to try and perform the exercises at least three times each week. The 2009 baseball season practice starts on March 2, and the first game against Wheaton High School is March 20, at Einstein.Junior pitcher / infielder Bobby Stouffer is shown the proper form for performing exercises
