Challenge Yourself, Improve Your Health, Enhance Your Life! |
Spring Has Finally Sprung!!! |
"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yeilding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong."
- Lao-Tzu (600 B.C.)

HOT YOGA IN THE SUMMER |
As the sun shines and outdoor activities begin, it is tempting to shy away from our regular Bikram Yoga practice and health maintenance system.
Whether your preference is to run, row, golf or ride bikes (perhaps you do it all!), maintaining a regular yoga practice will enable you to perform these activities to the best of your ability.
When we neglect to stretch our bodies we tend to stiffen up. Although the studio temperature remains consistent at approx 105 degrees year round, the warmer temperatures outside should enable your body to open up even more so than during the colder winter months. You may recognize more progress in your practice during this time of year.

THE KILLICK CLAN | |
We started Bikram Yoga in Nov, 2009. Ty and I were given two passes from friends so we thought it would make a great date! Wow, what a HOT date! Ty practiced like it was a gym workout! Big mistake! Whatever the instructor said, Ty did it... even if it meant that he would fall over from hyper ventilating. As for me, I took my time! I was nervous about the heat, what clothes to wear, my balance, and more. I was happy that I stayed in the room and survived!
I broke my wrist last year and since then I've had balancing issues. Most of the postures were either too painful or I was too scared to fall. I could not even flip my hand over, or hold on to my ankle! But I wanted to keep trying. After practicing a few times, we recognized how much the kids could benefit as well so we asked Julie if we could bring Sami (13), Gil (14), Von (18), and she said yes! They practiced and loved it... (Tobi - 11, practices at home with me!)
Three months after we started, Ty and I saw some great changes. Ty put breathing first, and the posture form was second. He started to notice that his back (lower and upper) muscles were not bothering him anymore, and his knee issues were diminishing. Plus he felt in better shape than when he was in his mid 20's!. I was able to use my right wrist without making a funny noise (ouch, eek, ow)?!?! Mind you I had to keep letting go of the thought of pain. We enjoyed it so much, that we decided to do the 30 day challenge! This is where Bikram yoga transformed us. You will hear how addictive this practice is. And it is for me! It is the only exercise that gives me 90 minutes of letting go! From the moment I walk into the studio I am letting go. Letting go of: our business, being a mom, being a wife! Then Letting go of: my clothes, the mirror, my image! And then letting go of: my sweat, my water, my pain, and the perfect posture! I am always a different person when I leave the studio, a person that I like alot!
As a family, we all agree that we like the heat, the breathing, the personal challenge, the special people, and the amazing instructors. We all learn so much about ourselves every time we practice. We also agree, if we did not live 45 minutes from the studio, we would be practicing Bikram Yoga at the West Edmonton studio every day. Thank you to all the staff at Bikram Yoga West Edmonton for making this yoga your life, and sharing it with us.
