Integration among business systems can greatly streamline workflow. As one Four51 Preferred Supplier told us recently: "I can't afford to touch an order. Everything has to flow through without human involvement, so my systems have to talk."
Digital Asset Management and Four51
You or your
customer may have addressed the need for archival and brand
management by using a digital asset management (DAM) system. Is there any way to integrate a system like this into the Four51
workflow and use those assets in your variable product templates? Of course there is.
One Four51 customer uses this feature to offer a
direct marketing solution for real estate agents. While in Four51,
Agents are able to select photos of homes from a digital asset management system as part of
customizing a variable print piece.
As with any integration,
this is not a 5-minute solution. But with some spec form
scripting, a way of handling web service requests, and a package that we offer
- you can integrate Four51 variable products with your assets.
One Solution, Two Components
First, the Spec Form Proxy feature allows
your product's spec form to make a web service call to a remote server.
This could be a server that you host, or even a web service-enabled DAM system.
In this instance, the web service call will return URLs to images on your DAM
system. Next, the Image Acquisition document
action allows you to pull images from a remote server and bring them into your
variable product on the fly. These two components combine to create a solution
for this increasingly common requirement.
