Rockness Monsters

Open Space Gallery is pleased to present new work from Ghostfuk3r (aka David Carson).

The artist's interest in the relationship between destruction and creation has culminated into an installation that balances purposeful design with complete obliteration - taking its cues from the notion that everything is on it's way to becoming something else through the process of creative destruction. Things must be destroyed so that they can be created, but nothing is ever lost. Elements are merely recombined into endless permutations and newmeanings constructed from what came before it.
The title of the show stems from it's thematic relationship to rock music and Gustav Metzger's idea of Auto-Destruction. The hybrid-like frankenstein objects created from this relationship are what Carson refers to as Rockness Monsters. Guitars and their offspring are mutated and destroyed to create new structures. Carefully constructed formal designs are slashed, beaten and obliterated in favor of creating something new from it's ashes - each part of the process altering, remixing and destroying itself to become a new object.

Carson's material ranges from print to oils, acrylics, enamel, wood, guitars, amplifiers, drums, plastics, tyvek, canvas and vinyl. All are employed as catalysts for the exploration of creative destruction.
As part of the opening reception, five tarted-up, painted guitars will be smashed Pete Townsend style by willing show attendees as part of the installation. Participants can keep what they destroy as an artifact created by their own actions at the show.  This is

Ghostfuk3r's (aka David Carson) first public exhibition. He is the creator and cofounder of the pioneering digital media company, Heavy and a graduate of Oberlin College.

Beacon Riverfest

Beginning in the summer of 2010, Local 845 will present a series of four free concerts under the name Beacon Riverfest on Beacon's Hudson River waterfront in the city's Riverfront Park. This series, given its intended scope and size, will be the first of its kind here. Each of the distinctive concert events will be meant to appeal to a broad public and will be marketed to an audience from well beyond the borders of Beacon and even Dutchess County. The Beacon Riverfest concert series will strive to be a regional event representing a diversity of genres and equally serving a diverse citizenry.  Given the location of the park, a strong emphasis will be made on utilizing the Metro North commuter rail to get to and from these events.

Local 845 is producing Beacon Riverfest, with the City of Beacon and BACA as its partners. Local 845 is fully responsible for financing, programming, and running the series. The City of Beacon is in no way providing financial assistance. Local 845's Stephen Clair is already at work securing media partnerships, and seeking sponsorships.

We are aiming high, and this kickoff event will be a great way to involve the live-music-loving audience Local 845 has come to know through its programs at numerous venues in Beacon. The Howland Center's Florence Northcutt has been an avid supporter of the music Stephen Clair has brought into the historic space.
Local 845 announces Beacon Riverfest, a free summer concert series to take place in Beacon's Riverfront Park, beginning summer 2010.
