A Letter From One of Our College Students

Hello friends!
I'm off in the snow at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, but I miss you all dearly! This semester I'm taking part in "the Elijah Project," a yearlong program focused on understanding vocation and God's call on human lives. As a part of the program, I'm required to take part in the equivalent of 6 weeks of full-time work over the summer in a field that interests me. While I don't have a clear idea of what career I'm looking toward, I'm a psychology major and am currently interested in the possibilities of counseling and secondary or higher education.

I wanted to get my name out in the church and see if anyone has any thoughts or ideas of where I might consider working (or shadowing) within the fields of work that I mentioned, connections to people who might be able to plug me into internships or shadowing positions, or even suggestions on where I might look.

I should mention that I'm not at all desperate for ideas, and I have a few prospects that seem plausible (potentially with some Free Methodist missionaries abroad, here in Wenham, or perhaps in Santa Barbara). I just thought I should tap into the resource that I have in you, my church family back home.

I hope this note finds you well! I'm praying for the church and I can't wait to see you again (hopefully very soon)!

Sincerely,
Landon Ranck

ABF

"The Life of Paul:
A Look at the Man Behind the Letters "
Presented by Pastor Danielle Garcia
February 14, 21, 28
9:30am
SHIFCO Recreation Room:  418 Santa Fe Place
(across Cliff Drive from the church)

Paul is one of the most fascinating people in the Bible.  We first meet him as he denounces and persecutes early Christians.  After being struck blind, the rest of his life reads like an adventure novel as he starts riots, spends years in prison, survives shipwrecks, speaks before high government officials and is eventually tried and executed by the Romans.

Paul is revered for his intellect and his writings.  But did you know that he failed more than he succeeded?  His life was hard and his ministry was difficult.  Although he is considered the greatest missionary of all, he struggled as an evangelist.  By studying the life of Paul, we can learn about the churches of the New Testament, re-think the foundation for our work in missions, and discover how to best share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Danielle is our associate pastor for young adult ministries, teaching and bookkeeping.  She attended our church while a student at Westmont and after graduation she earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School.  Prior to returning to Santa Barbara, Pastor Danielle was an assistant pastor at Verdugo Community Free Methodist Church in Los Angeles.  Her areas of interest include Biblical studies and theology.

Haiti Charitable Donations Deductible on 2009 Taxes!
