John 3:16 & 17
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send
his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through
him."
John 1:1-18
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that
life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness
has not understood it.
6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a
witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might
believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did
not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not
receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God- 13children born not of natural
descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,
the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and
truth.
15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of
whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'
" 16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing
after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came
through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who
is at the Father's side, has made him known.

Preparing For Sunday
|
In the intimate setting of the upper room, where only the
closest of Jesus' friends are present, we find Judas. The betrayal of
Judas demonstrates the truth that Jesus experienced everything you and I
experience. We've all been betrayed by those closest to us.
Most often when se study betrayal we look at it from the
perspective of the person betrayed. In an attempt to help them find
healing from the trauma of betrayal we study their response. One
therapist describes it this way:
"Betrayal is a shock. Most of us have experienced it and felt the harsh
hit of reality and the isolation and confusion that follows. People say "get
over it," but you can't. Betrayal involves lying, cheating, stealing,
broken promises, or revealing someone's secret. Betrayal is the violation of
trust.
There are five stages of the betrayal experience that must be addressed
during the healing process:
- Shock.
- Grieving the loss of the person you thought you knew.
- Grieving the loss of the actual person.
- Dealing with self-blame and humiliation.
- Forgiveness and letting go.
The first four stages are not necessarily consecutive. They can overlap
each other like waves in a turbulent ocean."

This Sunday we will read how Jesus knows our pain in such moments of
life.
See you Sunday!

The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission
is accepting turkeys, canned food, and monetary donations in preparation for its
annual Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 25 from 12:00 to 2:00
p.m. The Mission, along with the help of 45 volunteers,
is planning to serve over 300 meals to community members in need. This festive celebration will be held in the Mission's dining hall
located at 535 E. Yanonali St.
Approximately 900 turkeys are needed for all
of the meals that will be served during the holiday season. The birds are prepared and cooked in advance. The Thanksgiving dinner will include turkey,
mashed potatoes and gravy, pie...and all the trimmings.
Rolf Geyling, president of the Rescue
Mission, stated "On November 25, the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission will be home
and family to more than 300 of our poorest neighbors who come to celebrate the
holiday with us. But that's just for our
Thanksgiving Feast alone. In fact, we
expect to serve over 30,000 meals to men, women, and children in the next two
months-which is 20% more meals than last year."
Donations may be dropped off Monday through
Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Yanonali St. office.
