Memory Verse

John 3:16 & 17
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

John 1:1-18
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' "  16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

Women's Events

Women's Lunch 12-2pm on Sat. Sept. 26:  "Dealing with Stress, Anxiety & Depression"

How do we handle the stresses we experience, as well as feelings of anxiety and depression?  What are some ways we can cope with these without relying only on medications?  Are there ways we can prevent the harmful effects of stress in our lives, as well as lessen anxiety and depression?

All women are invited to join us on Saturday, Sept. 26th from 12:00 - 2:00pm in the upper room for a salad lunch and presentation on "Dealing with Stress, Anxiety and Depression" taught by Cheryl Wayman, MA, MFT, Director of our Cliff Drive Christian Counseling Center.  This wellness event is a follow-up to our spring presentation on Heart Health - and a great opportunity to gain new insights into how to deal with stress in our life, connect with other women in our church, as well as invite friends who may be new to our church or interested in these issues.

Please RSVP to Cheryl Wayman (cwayman@fmcsb.org or 568-3838x229) or the church office by Sun. Sept. 20, and reserve free childcare if needed with Nelda (965-1338x226) by Sun. Sept. 20 as well.

Fishers of Men

Fishers of Men
Channel 17, weekly on Fridays from 8-9 PM

At church people get to hear so many fascinating stories of people - missionaries, justice seekers, conservationists, authors, musicians, teachers, pastors, you name it - who are living out their lives for God's purposes instead of their own. Fishers of Men is a new local TV interview show that brings those stories out of churches and into the larger community. It begins this Friday, Sept 18th, with Laura and Manuel Vivanco, missionaries in a suburb of Mexico City, and will air live every Friday night from 8-9 PM on Channel 17.

>> VISA Ministries
VISA Ministries has a creative avenue for sending individuals to China to teach English while establishing relationships to share their faith. Dana (Greenfield, MN) has been associated with this ministry since 1994 and has recently returned to the U.S. to work on her PhD. Dana reports the contrast between life in China now compared to when she first arrived. People are more open to faith issues, and more want Bible studies and want to know Jesus. Years ago people thought Jesus was ridiculous. They didn't even consider there was a God. Now there's a desire to know God.

Dana is facilitating China ministry as volunteer staff, helping with recruitment, education and placement. To learn more, contact Deb Miller at fmcvisa@gmail.com or call (800) 342-5531.

>> Belgium
Amazingly, a combination of junk mail, flour, water, baking soda and vinegar can make a Bible story come alive (volcanically), according to missionary Sheila Dickinson. "The Brussels church has teens ready to step in and serve," write Sheila and her husband, Dick. "All they need is training on how to creatively teach the Bible to children and the resources to do it!"

Sheila is currently training Abigail, a teen in Oostende, and recently held a training seminar in Brussels. "It's slow," the Dickinsons admit, "but when you look at the faces and see people who really want to serve Jesus, it's worth running with endurance the Amazing Race set before us!"

>> Nigeria
On Sat., May 2, Mike Henry and the Wenatchee (WA) FMC VISA team distributedwheelchairs to 76 men, women, boys and girls with disabilities - mostly individuals who had polio and mostly Muslims - at a celebration that included music, gospel messages, fellowship, fun and food!

Chief Bature, guest of honor, along with another Fulani chief, Arduli, listened with the others as Pastor Mike told the story of how the gift of a wheelchair for Salihu, a student at Hope for Little Shepherds, resulted in 200 wheelchairs being given to the needy in Nigeria. One by one, our guests were called out and assisted into their own personal wheelchairs amid great excitement and loud applause! We served rice, meat and pure water to 76 guests who enjoyed their meal sitting for the first time, not on the dusty ground, but in their own new wheelchairs - filled with dignity, respect and joy. - Phyllis Sortor
