Santa Barbara Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteer Drivers

Can you spare 2 hours one day a week to deliver hot, nutritious meals to the elderly and homebound of Santa Barbara?  The hours are from approximately 10:15 am - 12:15 pm, and Meals on Wheels (MOW) currently has both weekday and weekend routes available. They are also in need of "on call" drivers that can fill in if the regular driver is unavailable. You will use your own car - and MOW will reimburse you for mileage!

The rewards for delivering Meals on Wheels are so great. They deliver 7 days a week 365 days of the year. They are a non-profit all volunteer organization except for one hired staff person and the contracting of food preparation from Valle Verde.  If you can spare a couple of hours one day per week or can volunteer occasionally please call the MOW office at 683-4565 Monday through Friday and ask for Leanna. You can also call or email Mark Huston for more information. His contact information is: markhuston1311@gmail.com or cell # 895-1262.

Lap For Alyssa 2009 - TONIGHT 7/3/09

Dear Alyssa Friends,

July 4th marks the 3rd anniversary of Alyssa's death, or what we know to be her own personal "independence day."  For the last two years  we have gathered together to walk a  "victory lap" around the track in her honor, and we'd like to invite you to join us again for this short but meaningful memoriam.  Due to the construction at Westmont, we will meet at the lower park in our neighborhood on Westmont Rd. and take our lap around the neighborhood circle.  You will notice that our neighborhood is also under construction!  Park in the first spot you see on the street around the neighborhood.  We will gather in the park near the big rocks that commemorate Alyssa Smelley Memorial Park.

Please join us for the
*"3rd Annual Lap for Alyssa."*

California Dreamin'

This is an English Language "camp" called "California Dreamin'" happening July 28th through Aguust 11th.  The directors are looking for just two more host families to house a 16 year old Italian Boy and another family to house a 20 year old Italian girl.  the students will be at school from 10am-6pm each day and there is a "Host Family" fellowhsip day on Sunday August 2nd.

This would be a great opportunity for us as Christians to house students so they can experience Christ in addition to Santa Barbara, America and English. If you are interested please contact Lauren LaForge at laurenlaforge@gmail.com or visit their website by clicking HERE

California Dreamin'
July 28th - August 11th

High school students from Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy will be joining us in Ojai and Santa Barbara this summer to have a fun, authentic Californian experience! Attending English language classes at UCSB in the mornings, traveling to tourist destinations and local hangouts in the afternoon, and enjoying homecooked meals with their American host families in the evening, this is a summer camp these students will never forget!

Students participating are accommodated in excellent, loving host families or in the UCSB Santa Catalina dorm rooms.

Become a part of the experience by hosting an Italian student in your Santa Barbara home.

"Why does God allow suffering?"
We all know that there are no easy answers to that question. But as you take the book and story of Job piece by piece, you'll be able to guide students towards a better understanding of this God who can be so difficult to comprehend.

Memory Verse

John 3:16 & 17
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

John 1:1-18
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' "  16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
