Have you ever had a misunderstanding via e-mail? It happens quite often. Misunderstandings usually happen when one side expects the other side to know what they mean.

Unless you type out your meaning clearly, know that the other side will be hanging on your every word to determine the tone and your intentions.

A dry sense of humor does not translate well in e-mail because we have no eye contact or body language to determine if the other side is pulling our leg.

If you crack a joke, add a  ;-). Otherwise the other side may not know you are kidding and you could risk misunderstanding or hurt feelings. It's always worth the extra effort to review your e-mail and even read it out loud to ensure you are clear in your meaning and will not be misunderstood.

Small Business Owners Learn Advertising Tips

Pictured: Rick Shapley (Cade Advertising & Associates) informing Chamber members on how to advertise smarter.

Rick Shapley (Cade Advertising & Associates) shared his top ten keys to advertising successes with Chamber members and local small business owners.  The tips included establishing a budget, seeking professional help, making a plan, doing your homework, not spreading yourself too thin, not letting the plan breakdown, knowing there is no magic bullet, provide incentives, measure results and stick with it.

"My time was well spent listening to Rick Shapley at the advertising workshop. The 'Top Ten Keys to Advertising Success'
made me rethink some of my current spending and will be a real consideration with future advertising budgets.  I also value the suggestions on measuring the results of my advertising choices," stated Connie Ledbetter (Blue Grace Logistics).

This workshop was co-sponsored by Cade & Associates Advertising and Business University.  For more information on Business University or the SEEDS Business Resource Center, contact Courtney Ruttinger.

Setting Up Children for Success

The 'Helping Your Child Succeed' workshop was presented to 36 employees at Georgia Power on Tuesday, Oct.5. Robby Hastings (Georgia Power Company) commented, "On behalf of everyone here at Georgia Power, I would like to thank you once again for making the time to come and speak with us this morning about the most important job we will ever have; making sure our children become responsible and productive adults, parents and citizens in our communities."  This workshop is the perfect tool for working parents.  While eating a complimentary breakfast or lunch, parents learn information to ensure the academic success of their children. Bring the 'Helping Your Child Succeed' workshop experience to your employees, call Keyara Hamilton at 229-247-8100 to schedule this 30 minute presentation.
