International Business Etiquette:
The information in this article is presented from a Western point of view. It is important to note that etiquette in other cultures requires a bit of adaptation and flexibility. If you're travelling on business to a foreign destination, or have visitors here, it is a good idea to learn as much as you can about the culture they are coming from and make appropriate allowances.
Items to consider:
- Language (make an effort to learn theirs if possible, but don't pretend to be fluent unless you have many years of study under your belt!)
- Time zones
- Working schedules
- Holidays
- Food customs (table manners, use of implements, etc.)
Generally speaking, as long as you are trying to be considerate and express an interest in learning, you should be fine. If in doubt, err on the conservative, formal side.

The Chamber's State Legislative Committee met with Sen. Golden and Rep. Black regarding the upcoming 2011 State Legislative Session on October 6. Both Golden and Black agreed the budget would be the number one priority. The Council for Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians is gaining momentum. Sen. Golden serves on Special Joint Committee on Revenue Structure, which will consider the Special Council's recommendations and introduce legislation during the 2011 session that would possibly restrict Georgia's current tax code. Rep. Black stated, "What we need is a business friendly tax structure for the state." For more information, please contact Alison Stokes. |
