Business Text Messaging Etiquette:
Many of the concepts that apply to email apply to text messaging regardless of platform (Desktop, Laptop, PDA, Blackberry, iPhone, Pocket PC) and vice versa. The key is courtesy and clarity in your communications. You need to use Instant Messaging (IM) or text messaging properly with consideration for the person on the other side.
Always be cognizant about when and where is the most appropriate time to send a business associate a text message. Doing so during meetings, while on the phone with another person or at activities where your attention is expected is inconsiderate and unprofessional. There is a time and place for everything and this applies to texting (and checking email on portable devices) as well.

2010 Congressional Apportionment Countdown

The first data released from the 2010 Census are the official national and state population count, which are used to apportion seats in the US House of Representatives. As mandated by the US Constitution, this data must be delivered to the President of the United States by the US Census Bureau on or before December 31, 2010.

| Gateways Committee Hosts Business After Hours | |

Business After Hours, a monthly networking event for Chamber members, took place at the Rainwater Conference Center on September 21. The event was sponsored by Georgia Power and hosted by the Gateways Committee. To celebrate the completion of Lowndes County's first gateway on Interstate 75 Exit 13, the Gateways Committee hosted a virtual ribbon cutting. Committee Chair of the Gateways Committee, Marshall Conner (Georgia Power) stated: "This occasion provided the opportunity to share the importance of improving the appearance and cleanliness of all gateways in our community."

Chamber members received the opportunity to attend a free workshop on how to create and develop their Traffic Catcher Web Sites on Sept. 21. The workshop was taught by Mary Courson (Express Employment Professionals) and Cindy and Paul Hotchkiss (E-Travel Anytime). Steven Heddon and Renee Parker (Fusion Marketing) wrapped up the event with a brief presentation on the importance of a Web presence.
