Opportunities to Serve: The deadline is quickly approaching to be considered for four public service opportunities. Applications for the following appointments must be received by July 28:
- Valdosta Tree Commission- 2 vacancies
- Valdosta/Lowndes Zoning Board of Adjustments & Appeals- 1 vacancy
- Public Art Advisory Committee- 1 vacancy

Arthur Herndon Jr. (Arthur Herndon Company Real Estate, Inc.) was named the 2010 BIG Thinker at the Mid-Year Membership Meeting on July 15. Herndon is an outstanding and successful entrepreneur whose business savvy and experience has impacted the Valdosta-Lowndes County Community.
Herndon is one of the pioneers of the real estate business in Valdosta and a founding member of the South Georgia Multiple Listing Service. Herndon was president of the Valdosta Board of Realtors in the 1960s and has been involved with numerous organizations including the Lions Club, Rotary Club, the Lakeland United Methodist Church Choir and the Georgia Association of Realtors.
The Herndon Company is a full service real estate company specializing in residential, commercial, property management, farms and land. | Chamber members look ahead at the Mid-Year Membership Meeting |

Georgia Power Company presented the Chamber's Mid-Year Membership Meeting on July 15. Marshall Conner (Georgia Power Company) welcomed Chamber members and guests to the annual event. Chairman of the Board, Terri Lupo (Georgia Power Company), presented the "State of the Chamber" address which included an update on the IMPACT 2012 initiatives, Chamber Choice Awards, Chamber partnerships, Chamber membership and the Gateways Project. Tim Jones (Citizens Community Bank) introduced guest speaker, Rob Nucatola (WCTV), and recognized past BIG Thinkers. Nucatola entertained and enlightened guests with stories of why looking ahead is so important for the current business workforce. |

ClientTell, Inc.'s Pat Sullivan speaks to MetroOne | President and CEO of ClientTell, Inc., Pat Sullivan, shared with local young professionals his experiences and lessons he has learned while starting his own business.CEOs Unplugged took place at Bas Bleu in beautiful Downtown Valdosta on July 12.

Pat gave the young professionals a few words of advice:
- when starting a business on your own, be debt free
- have a solid foundation
- have patience whether starting your business or working for someone else
- be well-prepared when you enter the market; study the market, watch the numbers and make necessary moves
- separate yourself from your competition
- be willing to sacrifice
- change is inevitable, you must learn to adapt
CEOs Unplugged is designed to give future entrepreneurs, executives and CEOs the opportunity to interact with, and learn from, those who have already seen success in their fields.
Prior to the event, each subcommittee chair shared with the newest members of MetroOne, the members of Valdosta Young Professionals Network (VYPN), what each committee is responsible for and what they do. |
