CHOICES presented to local teen campers
15Local students participating in Valdosta-Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority's "Extreme Teen" Summer Camp were presented with the
thought-provoking interactive workshop, CHOICES. The "Extreme Teen" volunteer presenter, Charmane Thomas (The Paxen Group) shared with campers how they are empowered to make CHOICES today that will impact every aspect of their future during the two-day presentation on June 22 and 23. This was the first of the 2010 Summer CHOICES presentation series. We are impacting the workforce in Valdosta-Lowndes County by giving our 'future workforce' CHOICES. To bring CHOICES presentation to the teens at your organization, contact Keyara Hamilton

VSU's Dr. Schnake updates the business community on EFCA

EFCA Seminar

The South Georgia Employer Committee and the Chamber co-sponsored the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) Seminar on June 23 at the Georgia Department of Labor. Dr. Mel E. Schnake (Valdosta State University) updated attendees on the current process of unionizing a workplace and how EFCA, also known as Card Check, legislation would effectively eliminate private voting, put government regulators in charge of private business decisions and unfairly punish businesses through harsh new penalties. "Card Check could dramatically change the union organizing process, and that could cause financial detriment to small and large businesses," stated Schnake. For more information on EFCA click here, and click here for more information on how you can help stop Card Check through the Workforce Freedom Initiative.

TYDTWD 2

The Chamber celebrated National Take Your Dog to Work Day on June 25. Employees brought their furry friends to the Chamber, dressed in their best business attire, to mingle and socialize with each other, while also helping out their owners with business matters such as typing, filing and making phone calls.
