Increasing Internship Opportunities in Valdosta

Members of the Chamber's Targeted Business Expansion Committee have partnered with the Career Services and Cooperative Education departments at Valdosta State University and Valdosta Technical College to find ways to improve internship opportunities in Lowndes County. The Chamber will survey local business members to gage their interest in developing internship programs and determine how much of the business community is already using interns. The Chamber will host an internship forum in August for businesses interested in starting or improving their internship programs for technical college and university students. Local Small business owners, employees and Guardian Bank Business Plan Competition contestants learn tips and techniques for marketing and Web optimization in their businesses.
Local professionals shared their knowledge of marketing and Web optimization with Chamber members and Guardian Bank Business Plan Competition Contestants on Tuesday, June 8 at Valdosta Technical College. Marcie Dennard (The Park Avenue Bank) presented the basics of marketing and Baha Zeidan (Azalea Health Innovations) presented reasons to have a Web presence and important elements in a Web site."The Web Optimization Seminar was full of useful information which I will be able utilize. The presenters offered great tips for making the most out of my Internet presence," said Marilois Campa (Pregnancy Support Clinic of Valdosta Inc.). 2010 Census Update |
Census Complete Count Committee (CCC) Chair, James McGahee (South Georgia Medical Center) reviews comparison of Lowndes County Census Participation Rates during CCC meeting held June 9.
Lowndes County 2010 Mail Back rate is 71% compared to the state's 70% and to the 2000 rate of 62%. "The 2010 Census CCC and all residents of Lowndes County are to be commended for raising our participation rate by nearly ten percent," said McGahee. It is up to the enumerators now to finish the effort. According to Lisa Pirtle (Census), the enumerators will be finished in Lowndes County by June 18 except for the counting of vacant properties.
