Family Connections

Dear Odle Families,

My name is Liliana Benavides and I am the family Liaison at Odle Middle School as well as Woodridge Elementary School. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your student to our school. As a mother of one girl who attends Kindergarten, I understand the importance of having good communication with families. My goal is to work together with parents, teachers and administrators to support students and their families in setting goals and arranging resources that will help students to be successful in school, at home and our community.

In each school's Family Connections Center, we offer the following support:

  • A welcoming place in school where parents can visit and feel at home
  • Strategies to help parents work successfully with their student's teachers
  • Parenting classes and parent coffees
  • Translation and interpreter support for Spanish-speaking families
  • Resources for families and their students, including clothing, food, shelter, school supplies, as well as resources for low or no-cost doctor visits
  • Scheduled meeting times available for parents to meet with teachers and discuss their children's academic concerns
I believe parent involvement in school activities has a significant impact on student achievement. I look forward to meeting you and helping to ensure that your family and student's need are well supported.

If you have any questions or would like to meet with me, please contact me at:

Sincerely,

Liliana Benavides

Friends of Odle Music

Do you know...

More than 350 Odle students take music class (orchestra, band or choir).

Odle offers the Academy of Instrumental Music to enrich and recognize students who are dedicated to high personal levels of artistic accomplishment.

Odle Band Director, Mr. Roberts not only leads three band groups: Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Academy Band, he also runs after school Jazz Club and Jazz Band.

Starting this year, there are three orchestra groups: Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, and Academy Orchestra. Odle Orchestra Director, Mr. Blough organizes Odle Symphony that brings together string, wind and percussion student players to perform as a symphony and compete at the Jr. High / High School level Festival.

As parents, not only we appreciate the high quality music education offered here at Odle, we recognize that three music teachers can not accomplish this alone and need our support, both logistically and financially.

Friends of Odle Music (FOOM) is a parent support, non-profit booster organization established to support our students, teachers and programs. Since its inception in March, 2011, we have accomplished a lot and continue growing as the number of music students increase every year while the budget decreases.

Please come and meet the music teachers and the FOOM board members to learn more about what we have done and plan to do, and what you can do to help. First meeting is 7:00-8:00PM on Thursday, September 20 @ the Orchestra Room.

FOOM Monthly Meeting Schedule: 7:00-8:00 PM @ the Orchestra Room on the following dates:

Volunteer Appreciation

Successful Ice Cream Social

We would like to thank all of the families who attended the ice cream social last Tuesday. Thanks also to the club and sports advisors and our principals who stayed after school to answer questions.  We went through a lot of ice cream!  Musican Carly Calbero and her drummer did a fabulous job.

Volunteer Thanks

Schedules

Thank you to the following people who helped hand out schedules: Amelia Kwok, Sayee Vaitheesvaran, Upasna Vaitheesvaran, Tanya Paszkeicz, Susan Aluma, Linnea Eng,  Rita Frost, Patty Roberts, and Dominique Vincenti.

Ice Cream Social Volunteer Thanks

We would like to thank our wonderful Odle custodians, Bill Robbins and Bill McCann for their outstanding assistance with set-up and clean-up for our event.  They went above and beyond the call of duty for PTSA!  Thanks also to our day custodian, Huy Lam for his assistance making sure everything was in place for the evening. Last but not least, we  thank our event volunteers:  Tamar Bayer, Benjamin Chau, Adam Dibba (and daughter Husai ),  Barbara Espinoza, Eric Hammer,  Arlene Hoffman, Julia Krill (and son  Ryan),  Jerilyn Morris, Luanne Lemmer, Vicki Liao and 7th grade parent Dan.   We have to add that Dan (we didn't get a last name) and Benjamin Chau noticed lines were getting long and kindly joined the scooping team on the spur of the moment.   Students Caiden and Efraim and one more student (apologies for not getting his name)  helped set up tables and fill up water jugs.  That was much appreciated!

Pictures

Thank you very much to those kind parents who showed up to help with picture make-ups on very last minute notice:   Snehal Dedhia, Tanya Paszkeicz  and Ozlem Toprakbasti.    We appreciated that a lot!

Volunteer Needs

Parents play a critical role at Odle.   We encourage parent involvement and regularly communicate with the school to see what help is needed.   Here are the current opportunities. Thanks.

Library

Our Odle librarian Jolyn Danielson needs some help putting covers on new books.  Please contact her directly to arrange a time to help.  Jolyn's email is danielsonjo@bsd405.org.    Thanks!

Magazine Drive

Soon, Odle Associated Student Body (ASB) will be launching a magazine & cookie dough drive to raise funds for field trips, student socials and more.   ASB  has requested PTSA assistance.  If you are willing to be on the team of parents that will assist ASB on collection days, please email Whitney at cwdevine57@gmail.com.

Success Zone Help

HELP KIDS BE SUCCESSFUL AT ODLE

The faculty "Success Team" has requested some extra help from parents after school in the Work Completion Zone (Library) and Homework Club (MUR).

To make it very easy to sign up, we have put a "SUCCESS CALENDAR" on the PTSA homepage:  www.odleptsa.org.  Simply click the success calendar icon and then click a date to add or delete your name.   Jolyn Danielson and Elise Lee will check the calendar to see who they should expect each day.  Please consider signing up to help once a month after school from 2:33 - 4:10 (M, T, TH or F).  Even if you can only do once between now and June, that would be great.    This is a self-serve calendar so you will not receive any email confirmation or reminder from PTSA.   Questions?  Jolyn's email is danielsonjo@bsd405.org or Elise Lee leee@bsd405.org
