Be The Bridge Book Drive to Promote Summer Reading

Time has come for the 3nd annual Be the Bridge Book Drive! Through the promotion of summer reading, this book drive aims to bridge the achievement gap for the less fortunate students at Odle. Research shows that children who do not read during the summer lose up to three months of reading progress and that this loss builds up to affect them significantly in the long-term. The past two years have been very successful, so we're hoping to repeat that success this year. In order to do this, we need your help! Please bring your new or gently used books to Odle from May 4th to June 15th and place them in the box near the main office.

In the last two years upwards of 8,000 books have been collected from various schools and programs and book stores including Odle. All of these books were used to stock a wonderful Book Mobile in 2010 and a district-wide summer school for free and reduced lunch students in 2011. This year the books will be dispersed to students the last week of school who have financial hardship. Here is the link to the Bellevue Reporter article on the 2010 program: http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/east_king/bel/news/99149419.html.

We hope that you can help us to bridge the achievement gap one book, one child at a time!

Co-coordinators, Alyssa Deardorff and Linda Deardorff

MSP Testing

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

As you probably know, each year students take the Washington State Measurement of Student Progress or MSP test in the spring.

This year:

  • 6th grade students will be assessed in Reading and Math.
  • 7th grade students will be assessed in Reading, Math, and Writing.
  • 8th grade students will be assessed in Reading, Math, and Science.

Students at Odle will be taking the MSP tests according to the following calendar:

  • 6th Graders (not in the Prism program) - May 4 & 5
  • 7th Graders (not in the Prism program) - May 7, 8, 10 and 11
  • 8th Graders (not in the Prism program) - May 10, 11, 14 and 15
  • All Prism students (6th, 7th and 8th graders) - May 10, 11, 17 and 18

Most of this year's MSP tests will be taken "online" per directions from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Olympia.  Scores will be sent to parents in the late summer.

If you have any questions about this year's MSP testing, please feel free to contact your student's counselor at 425.456.6600.

Sincerely,

Eric McDowell

Principal

Interlake Football

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to a very resilient and high character group of people. Interlake Football is founded on the three C's of life; Character, Class and Competition. The Fleur de' Lis is a symbol of our standard and is a reminder of what we stand for and how we operate. Interlake players understand the character it takes to work hard and be a selfless man. They strive to balance their school work, football career and social group They handle all wins and losses in life with class, dignity and respect for others. Finally, they are very competitive people in whatever they do. They compete at home, on the field and in the classroom. This brand is who we are and is constantly our focus. Interlake players, including you, know that if they focus on the 3 C's that everything else will take care of itself.

Being an Interlake Saint takes a strong work ethic and requires sacrifices. If you want to be the best teammate you can and be a part of group of selfless men, it requires you to sacrifice your time and some of your own personal glory. This program is a 'team' first program. The program and the Fleur are who and what we work and play for.

Welcome to Interlake Football.
