Picture Retake Day on October 20
Picture Retake Day is Thursday, October 20. Just come to school and go to classes as usual, and you will be called out of class. This is for students who had a photo taken but did not like the photos, or there is something wrong with the photos. If the mistake is the photographer's mistake, there will be no charge. However, if you don't like the photo because of your hair or the expression on your face, something like that, you will need to re-purchase photos. If you have not had your photo taken at all and just want an ID card, you may do that on this day, as well. |

ALL HANDS ON DECK! HELP KIDS BE SUCCESSFUL AT ODLE!
The faculty "Success Team" has requested some extra help from parents after school in the Work Completion Zone (MUR) and Homework Club (Library). This will mainly be light supervision with an occasional question.
To make it very easy to sign up, we have put a "SUCCESS CALENDAR" on the PTSA website: http://www.odlemiddleschool.org. Parents can simply click a spot and add or delete their name. Please consider signing up to help once a month after school at Odle from 2:33 - 4:10 (M, T, TH or F).
If everyone takes a spot, we will all have played a role in creating a supportive and effort-rewarding school atmosphere so that our students can thrive. |

Magazine Request from Odle Science Teachers
Are you a fan of the Odle Science Department?
Our Odle science teachers are constantly coming up with ways to keep our students engaged and learning. Our teachers have noticed some great science magazines in the current ASB magazine order packet that they would love to have for their classes. Do we have any parents who would like to donate a subscription of a science magazine? Enrich science classes AND raise funds for ASB at the same time. To donate a subscription of a science magazine, please contact Cathi Hervey at herveyjc@hotmail.com. Cathi is coordinating with the science department to make sure they get the magazines on their wish list. Thanks for supporting learning at Odle. |

Special Request from Odle Language Arts Teachers
The Odle PTSA is helping our language teachers with a technology request. We are using some grant money from PTSA, but would like to give Odle families an opportunity to help if possible meet part of the equipment request. Five of our language teachers could use a CD Player with Cassette Recorder & AM/FM Radio. The player should have about 50 watts power (about 20 watts per speaker) to produce high quality sound to cover the classroom. These can be found on the internet for $50 - $70 each.
A link to a sample player is attached: Sample Sony boombox
Language teachers would be happy with used players if they are in good condition and meet the requirments. Please contact odleptsa@hotmail.com if you can help meet this need.
Thanks! |

Language Arts Book Donations
The LA teachers are requesting donations of the Younger Reader's Choice book nominees. During Teen Read Week, Oct. 16-22, we are presenting the nominated books and students will be able to request titles they would like to read. Currently, we only have 2 copies of 70% of the titles and last year we had 300 requests of some titles. At our current state, only about 24 students would get to read their requested book. We would love it if you have these titles at home and would be willing to donate them to the school library. Please send your donations to school with your student to give to their LA teacher. We really appreciate your support.

Success Initiative Feedback Email: successodle@hotmail.com
Dear Parents,
The PTSA has created an email account to make it easier for you to give constructive feedback on the new success initiative. Suggestions for improvement as well as compliments will be collected and passed along to our principal and the faculty success team so that they can make the program as effective as possible.
The feedback email account is designed for people who want their feedback to be anonymous. Names and email addresses will be removed by our webmaster or one of the PTSA presidents before the comment is forwarded to the principal. If you have a question and would like the principal to respond to you personally, go ahead and just email him directly. Thank you for comments we have received so far. They have been anonymously forwarded to the prinicpal and vice principal. Have a good week!

Donations Coordinator
Announcing a brand new volunteer position! This one can easily be done from work or home and would require very little time. We are looking for someone to seek, and secure donations in kind (napkins, balloons, decor, food, etc...) from local businesses. As our "Donations Coordinator", you would seek donations (from Safeway, QFC, Party City, French Bakery, Michael's, JoAnn, etc...) for the PTSA to help us stretch our budget. You would be periodically contacted by committee chairs and the PTSA presidents and asked to send a letter or make a phone call (your preference) to see if a local business might be willing to give something to the PTSA for a specific event. For example, we got donations for the ice cream social from Top Foods for $25 and balloons from a party store.
Our coordinator would keep a notebook of requests made so that we don't ask any business for things twice in the year. This person would also send thank you notes to businesses that grant requests as well as put a thank you in our Viking News. All you need to be good at this job is a positive attitude and some of our PTSA stationery!
Please email odleptsa@hotmail.com if you are willing to help. |

Chess Club Coordinator
Currently there is no after school chess club at Odle. We have heard that we do have some great players at our school, and some people have expressed an interest in having a club at Odle. No promises can be made at this point, however we would like to hear from any parent who would be interested in running an after school chess club (similar to math club) one day a week at Odle. Also, we would like to try and find out how much interest there would be on the part of our chess playing students to have such a club. If you are either a potential Chess club parent leader or the parent of an interested student, please email odleptsa@hotmail.com so that we can start collecting information. |

Help 18,000 students with one donation to the Bellevue Schools Foundation
At Curriculum Night, Bellevue Schools Foundation Trustees and volunteers highlighted the impact the Foundation makes in every classroom, every day. Your financial support makes that impact possible.
Odle benefited in lots of different ways from BSF last year: AVID, Project Readiness, VIBES, Music Grants, Faces of Odle, Don't Tell Jessica (anti-bullying), Red Scarf Girl author visit, Social Studies grant and Pacific Science Center field trip are just a few of the programs directly impacting our school. Visit BSFs website to learn more about supported programs and volunteer opportunities, or contact our school's interim BSF Rep (Catherine Smith, catherine@hufamily.com, 425-558-2004).
In early November, Foundation volunteers will call every parent in the district and invite you to make a gift to support our students. If you'd like to make a gift before that call, drop off a check at the school office, call the Foundation at 425-456-4199 or give online.
School staff can support the Foundation by writing in Bellevue Schools Foundation for your United Way contribution or by using payroll deduction. Member of the School Employees Credit Union of Washington grow their donation through the Foundation giving program. |
