The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works, created around a specific theme. This years theme is "WOW!" Students decide what that phrase means to them and create their work of art. Entry Categories:
- Choreography/Dance - create original choreographed dance and perform it on tape.
- Film/Video - fiction or nonfiction video created as animation, a narrative, documentary, experimental, or music video.
- Literature - works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories, and lyrics.
- Music Composition - original musical composition, with or without lyrics.
- Photography - prints up to 11"x14" in color or black and white, including techniques of photogram, retouched, montage, sandwich, and multiple exposures.
- Visual Arts - prints, drawings, painting, collages, photographic collages, metal etching, fiber work and computer generated art. Works of art must be flat and may not exceed more than 3/8" thickness. Artwork may not exceed 24" x 30" including matting.
Rule sheets and entry forms for the categories will be available later this week in the main office at school. Rules and entry forms are also available in Spanish. Students can enter up to two works in each of the arts areas. Only original works of art created by the artist working alone, for the 2008-2009 theme are accepted. There will be ample time for individual discussions with all of them. The event is sponsored by Region 2 of PTA which includes Bellevue, Mercer Island, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Riverview, and Snoqualmie Valley. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS!!!
Mark your calendar for PTA Focus Day in Olympia - Feb. 26th Join Odle PTSA officers and other Odle parents at the Washington State PTA Focus Day in Olympia on Thursday, Feb. 26th.
PTA Focus Day, this year, is focusing on our #1 priority as voted on at Legislative Assembly which is to fully fund basic education for our kids. It is extremely important to have a strong parent showing at Focus Day this year, since the WA state legislature will be taking a long look at basic education funding and will be making some difficult decisions in this area.
So, please mark your calendars to keep Feb. 26th free. We will arrange carpooling from/to Odle. Stay tuned for more details.
