Odle PTSA General Membership Meeting
Thursday, Oct. 23rd 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Odle Library
Last chance for Reflections! - We need Reflections co-chairs and a committee in order to have Reflections at Odle this year.
Does your student like to enter the state wide Reflections competition? If so, please consider volunteering to be part of the Odle Reflections committee. Without a Reflections committee and chairs, Odle students can not participate in the state wide Reflections competition. Please consider volunteering a little bit of your time for this important literature and arts program for our students. Contact Odle PTSA VP of Programs Laura Buchthal at rumba@msn.com if you are interested on being on this committee.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Odle's Annual Food Drive! - 10/13 - 10/24 - PLEASE DONATE FOOD The Odle Service Club is excited to announce the upcoming food drive to support the Bellevue Hopelink Food Bank. Last year, our school donated 3180 lbs of food to Hopelink - the most Hopelink has ever received from one school. We are hoping to out do ourselves this year and reach a donation goal of 3200 pounds of food.
Students bring donations to their first period class between 10/13 and 10/24. Donation items include all non-perishable goods. Some suggestions:
- canned soup & chili
- canned tuna or chicken
- canned fruits and vegetables
- pasta and rice
- baking items
** All items must be in original packaging and sealed. Donation collection progress will be announced on the morning announcements as well as charted on a poster in the hallway outside of the lunchroom. As this is a school wide goal, there will be a reward for all students if we are able to reach our 3200 pound goal. Thank you for your support, The Odle Service Club, Jana Sparks & Amber Anderson - Advisors
After school History Club begins Monday, Oct. 13th Mrs. Shelton and Mrs. Boyd are the advisors for the After school History Club. This club will meet every Monday, 3:10 - 4:10 p.m., in room 109.
Students will be given the opportunity to conduct advanced research and create an exhibit on a topic of their choice based on the theme of "The Individual in History--Actions and Legacy."
Students in 8th-grade U.S. history classes may be able to earn extra credit for their work. Other students can enter the National History Day contest which is held at the Shoreline Community Center in March. Last year two Odle students won a prize for their display on Rosie the Riveter.
GET ACTIVE - LEGISLATIVE NEWS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bellevue School Board and Bellevue PTSA Council invites the parent community to a conversation with our representatives:
Rep. Ross Hunter (D-48) Senator Rodney Tom (D-48) Rep. Fred Jarrett (D-41) "Let's do something about state education funding"(A Proposal for the Basic Education Finance Joint Task Force) Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, 7pm
Sammamish High School Performing Arts Center
Washington State's education funding system is broken. Increasing costs and declining funds to public schools continue to create chronic underfunding which affects every student in Bellevue and forces the district to use levy dollars to fund basic education programs.
2008-2009 could begin the change. For more than a year, the WA Joint Task Force on Basic Education Finance has been studying the education funding problems facing our state. Its report and suggestions to the legislature are due in December 2008. Finally, there will be a serious and open discussion in Olympia about what our kids need and how we can help them get it. The Task Force has been working on two monumental issues important to BSD and the State: · redefining basic public education to include all that our children need for success · developing an appropriate funding mechanism for our schools This presentation will discuss a serious proposal to address these issues; and how we can help.
After the presentation, questions from the Board and audience will be answered. For event information or to submit questions in advance, contact Bellevue PTSA Council President Janet Suppes janetpta@gmail.com or Legislative Chair Connie Gerlitz dgerlitz2@comcast.net | |
