ODLE MAGAZINE FUNDRAISING DRIVE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support our School by participating in the Odle Annual Magazine & CD Sale Fundraiser
Our Magazine & CD fundraiser sale started September 25th and runs through October 10th, and we really need your help. This is our only schoolwide fundraiser and the money we raise is used for after school activities, student planners, yearbook, clubs, sports, buses, and much more.
Your student came home last week with a catalog listing over 1,000 magazines and CDs to choose from. Students can bring in orders anytime in the next two weeks!
Ordering on-line is a convenient way for parents, co-workers, students, or friends to support this fundraiser and the students still get credit for the sale:
Log on to www.qsp.com
Click on "Register Now" or "Just Shopping"
Odle's account # is 425010231
Follow the instructions to shop or to send emails to friends
The fundraiser is underway and we need the support from all students, staff and parents to reach our goal of $40,000
ODLE PTSA NEWS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you filled out the PTSA forms from Taking Care of Business Day? If not, visit our Odle Middle School Website at http://www.odlemiddleschool.org/PTSA%20Forms/PTSA%20Forms%202008-09.pdf to print out copies of Membership, Volunteer, and Pass the Hat forms and support Odle through PTSA. Forms can sent in to Odle with your student.
Together we can build a Strong Community!
GET INVOLVED! Volunteer Opportunities
Reflections - The state wide Reflections competition has the theme of "WOW" this year. Odle PTSA needs a Reflections chair & committee to encourage Odle students to participate and to coordinate our students' submissions. Contact Odle PTSA VP of Programs Laura Buchthal at rumba@msn.com if you are interested.
Volunteers needed to help with Magazine Drive - Parent volunteers are needed the following mornings to help with processing of Magazine orders turned in by Odle students.
Tuesday Sept 30 Friday Oct 3 Tuesday Oct 7 Friday Oct 10
This is a great way to help with this very important fundraiser and meet some other Odle parents. Please contact Cathi Hervey at herveyjc@hotmail.com or 865-8362 to volunteer.
Volunteer in the Odle Library - Our part-time librarian, Debbie McLeod, is looking for parents to help with shelving, processing books and magazines, book orders, inventory, etc. Last year Odle had a full-time library assistant to help with these tasks, but the budget no longer supports that position. Volunteers are needed anytime during the school day on Thursdays, Fridays, or alternate Wednesdays. Email Cathy Habib at cathydavid.habib@verizon.net to volunteer. A training session will be held the morning of Wed, Oct. 8th for volunteers who can attend.
GET PREPARED! Emergency Preparedness
Did you donate the "optional" Emergency Preparedness Fee at Taking Care of Business? If not, please consider making this small $5 per student payment to Odle Middle School in order to help the school & PTSA purchase necessary emergency supplies to take care of our children during the event of an emergency situation which keeps kids on campus. Odle MS needs tarps and tents to provide shelter in the case of an emergency or disaster. We are gathering these through donations. If you are cleaning up your camping gear and have some tarps or tents you don't need any more, the school would welcome the donation. Contact Anne Reece anne.reece@verizon.net for more information.
GET ACTIVE! Give your input on Washington PTA Legislative Issues
The Washington State Legislature has formed a Task Force to develop a new system for the delivery and funding of K-12 education in this state. Despite changes in expectations, the model for education funding has not been changed for 30 years. Washington State PTA and many other organizations throughout the state are deeply concerned about the crisis in K-12 education funding in our state. In fact WSPTA is working on these concerns now!
Some facts to consider:
- The average per-pupil allocation from the state does not cover the actual cost.
- The state allocation pays for only 5 class periods per day.
- Funds for 6 and 7 period days come from local levies.
- The state legislature has passed a number of mandates, but provided no additional funding for school districts to comply.
- Larger class sizes are not just a problem in our district. Washington State ranks 46th, fourth worst in in class size. (Source: NEA Ranking and estimates)
Are you concerned? The single most important thing you can do is to get informed and engaged. Please take the time to complete the survey this survey before Sept. 30th

SCHOOL NEWS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
School Pictures - September 30th
For those students who missed getting their picture taken during Taking Care of Business Day week and for students who need a re-take because of a problem with their pictures, picture re-takes will be in the morning of Tuesday, September 30th Speed Patrols - Please slow down
Bellevue Police Department and Washington State Patrols will be patrolling the zone outside of Odle and Stevenson. They are passing on the message to Odle staff and parents that they will be there and will be ticketing speeders so we all need to slow down.
IMPORTANT! Drop-Off and Pick-Up: Please help alleviate traffic jams!
In order that all parents are able to drop off and pick up their Odle student in a timely and safe manner, and to ensure that Odle traffic DOES NOT back up into 8th St. and the light, the following is being asked of all drivers/cars during the AM/PM drop off and pick up times.
- ALWAYS form 2 lines when pulling into the parking lot in front of the school
-
DO NOT leave your car unattended in these 2 drop off/pick up lanes.
-
ALWAYS pull your car up as far as you can in these 2 lines: making sure to move forward as the car in front of you moves forward
-
ALWAYS watch for children as they move to meet their ride
-
ALWAYS keep a continual flow of movement in these two lines - DO NOT stop to wait for your child unless you see them and they see you as well
-
PLEASE do not block the crosswalks or the access road to the back parking lot of the Bellevue Aquatic Center
All student pick-up after 2:45 PM, should be done so on the SOUTH side of the building for student safety. Pick-up times on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are 2:33 PM (after school), 3:07 PM (after tutorial), and 4:10 PM (after activities). On Wednesdays, pick-up is at 1:23 PM. Please make sure you are on time to pick your child up. If your child is waiting longer than 15 minutes for a ride, for safety, your child maybe escorted to Club Bellevue, a supervised activity. We GREATLY appreciate your partnership in this effort to eliminate traffic issues at Odle. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and aid. Thank you! BELLEVUE SCHOOLS FOUNDATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bellevue Schools Foundation is a community organization that raises money to support academic excellence for every student in the Bellevue School District. Washington State does not provide adequate funding for the excellent education that Bellevue students deserve: to keep Bellevue schools excellent, the community needs to fill the gaps.
Answer the Call This Fall - New Phonathon dates: November 10 -13, 2008 Phonathon, our critical fall fundraiser, is more important than ever! BSF is already funding programs that help kids in all our schools, and we need to make sure we can keep delivering those programs. Every year, volunteers call parents in our fall fundraiser, Phonathon. Due to the late start, calling dates for Phonathon have been moved to November, but you can contribute now. Please donate online at www.bsfdn.org/donate Every gift matters.
Donate by October 29th, and our volunteers won't have to call you! If you've already made your donation - THANK YOU!
Why Support the Bellevue Schools Foundation? The Bellevue Schools Foundation raises money for activities that help students across the district. It funds many programs focused on academic rigor, including a new math program for K-5 and better language arts programs in every grade. It funds several innovative programs to assist struggling students, such as homework clubs and AVID classes. Kids in every school receive a better education due to the Foundation's help. Matching Gifts: Many local companies offer their employees the chance to have their charitable gifts matched. When considering a gift to the Bellevue Schools Foundation, please remember to check with your company's Human Resources department to see if they match donations and to pick up a matching gift form. Workplace Giving: Many BSF supporters make pledges through United Way, Microsoft Giving Campaign and other workplace charitable giving campaigns. BSF is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit - Tax ID #91-1080997.
Amazon.com: It's easy to raise money for our schools while you shop at Amazon.com. Just go to the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) website home page, www.bsfdn.org and click on the Amazon.com link.
