Upgrades to All Analyzer Products Complete!
Dear Registered Member: In response to you, our fantasy football community, we have made a few changes. Some subtle, some not so subtle. We have eliminated the rounded data process from all analyzers due to overwhelming support, both from our community and our independent research. Says Russ Bliss, Operations Manager and Fantasy Football Analyst, "Rounding the data created discrepancies within the player rankings. In a mathematical algorithm there are decimal points that are inherent so we are going forward with raw data only. Research has shown it to be more accurate in assigning projected rankings than the rounded data has been. While I expect that some will struggle with seeing decimal points when in football statistics there are none (after all, a RB can't really score 0.48 TD's in a game), but player rankings based on predicting exact rounded stats has a larger margin for error than rankings based on incorporating the mathematical probability factors, reflected within the decimals, of each stat on a player's overall projected performance. Again, research leads us to believe this will create even more accurate rankings for all league types, even those that do not use the decimal scoring system."
Another change is the cleaner and smoother look to our Power Rankings page. Championship Package subscribers have sent many emails in thanks for this, as it is much easier to see not just the players ranked in order, but also with less of the crowding it used to have.

FFS Members Proving their Fantasy Smarts!
We told you last week about our friends at FantasyPros.com asking the question: Which fantasy football website has the most knowledgeable members? Well, you guys stepped up and nailed 8 of 10 start/sit questions correct. Check out the results from week 3. Every registered member (paid or free) can take part in their Forums Pick the Player weekly challenge. Every week they ask 10 questions on who to start between 2 players. Simply pick the player you think will have the better fantasy performance that week. It takes about 1 minute to complete and each week they post the results. Are YOU up to the challenge? Get the details and play for FFS in the FantasyPros Forums Challenge! And you'll also see on the results from week 3 that there are 67 industry experts who take part in this weekly contest too. You'll notice that our own Russ Bliss came in 1st out of all 67 in week 3. Russ's secret? The Power Rankings provided by our Power Lineup Analyzer. Just another reason why our Championship Package subscribers have more success than most in their fantasy leagues. |
New Feature: Newsletter Player Rankings
With the elimination of rounded data, we bid a fond farewell to what has been a regular staple of these in-season newsletters: the PLA Hits and Misses. We're not hiding the fact that we still get things wrong, everyone and every system does. We think we've proven we're just as upfront about our failures each week as we are about our successes. But since the new system is geared more towards probability rankings and less on exact statistical projections, we felt you'd like to see some of our rankings for the upcoming week instead. Using a generic scoring system of 1 point for every 10 rush/receive yards; 1 point for every 25 pass yards; 6 points for every TD run/receive, 4 points for every TD pass, and minus 1 point for every interception here are the current top 5 at QB, RB, and WR according to our Power Rankings as of Wednesday afternoon: |
QB's
|
RB's
|
WR's
| |
Tom Brady
|
Adrian Peterson
|
Wes Welker
| |
Aaron Rodgers
|
Darren McFadden
|
Vincent Jackson

Phillip Rivers
|
Ray Rice
|
Calvin Johnson
| |
Drew Brees
|
Matt Forte
|
Mike Wallace
| |
Matt Stafford
|
LeSean McCoy
|
Steve Johnson
| No big surprises here but what you can't see is that there is an unexpected sleeper player currently in the top 10 QB's this week. Jason Campbell is at home and gets a New England pass defense that is dead last in passing yards allowed and fantasy points allowed thru the air per game. Campbell's a shaky QB, but the matchup is sweet for him this week and the Analyzer see's him having a strong performance against a Patriots defense that allowed another shaky QB, Chad Henne, to have 416 yards and 2 passing TD's against them back in week 1. Campbell's not a popular pick as a top 10 fantasy QB among many experts and sites, but we care more about identifying when things are right for a lesser player like Campbell to have a great game than being popular. |
Line-up Contest Going Strong
Congratulations go out to our subscriber Jimmy and his fantasy lineup contest team: team cold beer for having the top score in week 3 of our lineup contest. With strong performances by players like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Roddy White, Jermichael Finley, Rob Gronkowski, along with kickers Neil Rackers and Jason Hanson, Jimmy raced to the top this past week. A heated battle for the top spot in the overall rankings is also brewing. Our first two week's winners are separated by less than 4 points with 9 others all within 50 points of the top spot. Given that this is fantasy football and anything can happen, no lead is safe. It only takes one poor week for the overall season standings to change, sometimes dramatically. Remember, we play each week for fun and the total points leader at the end of the season gets a Trophy, a free lifetime membership to FFS, and we also donate $1,000 in the winner's name to Play It Smart, an NFL-sponsored charity that teams student-athletes with an academic coach to strengthen classroom skills and build leadership qualities. The contest is open to ALL registered members at Fantasy Football Starters and we encourage you to take part in the 2011 Lineup Contest! |
Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game Defensive Rankings
Something else that is a new regular feature every week on FFS is the generic fantasy points allowed per game (Russ calls it FP/PG) sheets for every defense against both the run and the pass. Every week on Tuesday afternoon, Russ posts the generic FP/PG defensive rankings for everyone to see and use in determining the matchups for their fantasy players. These sheets are generic though and not conformed to the many variances each league's individual scoring system will have. That's why we insist on knowing a league's scoring system before our Analyzer tools can be used to create rankings and provide recommendations for your specific fantasy teams. Our Championship Package subscribers get that type of customization included for their fantasy teams. If you're not a Championship Package subscriber, why wait? Upgrade Now! |
