Isaac AlonzoIsaac Alonzo is a local painter whose work is steeped in tradition - several traditions, in fact!  His work is mostly narrative, focusing on themes of everyday life in Mexico and the U.S.  His paintings have the character of Mexican mural art like the work of Diego Rivera.  On the other hand, some of his paintings are symbolic or surreal, akin to the art of Rene' Magritte and the Mexican surrealists of the 1930's.  Alonzo grew up and became an artist in Mexico, but moved to Oregon when he turned 40, over a decade ago.

Fortunato Ramirez was born in Mexico but grew up in California.  His sculptures and wall pieces are distinctly mid-century modern in style, reminiscent of Calder and Brancusi.  He Fortunato Ramirezuses recycled materials only.  Wood, metals, cardboard and foam-board are gleaned from construction sites and reshaped into elegant forms which he covers with paint, recycled crushed glass or crushed walnut shells.  The effect is earthy and beautiful.

An opening reception for all artists will be held on First Tuesday, February 3rd, at 6PM.
