Greetings! Here is the November issue of the Walters Cultural Arts Center's monthly e-mail update. Please take a moment to scroll all the way through - we have a lot going on at the Center in November. We hope that you will join us for a concert, to view the art exhibition - or to take in a lecture or a class.
Concert tickets make great holiday gifts! We have a terrific performance line-up in November, December and into 2009. Treat yourself, family & friends to a night on the town - and take in one of the concerts highlighted below. Look for additional offerings on our web site at www.ci.hillsboro.or.us/wcac and in upcoming e-mails.
We would also like feedback from you about the new format of this e-mail newsletter. Is it easy to read? Is it informative? Have you participated in any of our programs based on what you read in one of our recent issues?
Thanks for your support.

True Stories and Other Fictions in Northwest Oral History with Tom Nash
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where does history end and folklore begin? Tom Nash looks at the elements of folklore embedded in supposedly nonfiction stories of frontier Oregon and the West. When oral histories reveal the threads of legend, the stories undoubtedly become more engaging. Are we duped by elements of tall tale and legend? These questions and more will be discussed this evening, revealing the truth about our region's past.
Gallery Exhibition
NEST: Jan Shield, Richard Rowland, Artists of Yamhill County & Pacific University Students
November 4-28
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEST is an ongoing project created by Jan Shield, Professor of Art, Pacific University in Forest Grove, involving artists in the Yamhill region and beyond to create works of art inspired by the word "nest." this idea started with Shield's fascination with the variety of bird nests he found blown out of the trees on his property, known as Dancing Trees Sanctuary. Their intricate nature and beautiful inter-latticed composition inspired a sense of natural wonder that sparked the project NEST.
The main gallery will feature professional artists including Richard Rowland, TimTalt and Jewel Shield participating in NEST. The lower exhibition space will feature artwork by students involved in NEST, as well as marquetry works by Michael Cowan.
The opening Reception for all artists will be held on first Tuesday, November 4th from 6-8pm. |

A contemporary a cappella group, the Bobs are a "band without instruments" using just their voices and body percussion to fill the theatre with an orchestra of harmonious sound, accompanying themselves on songs that range from soulful to satire, from amazing to moving, from familiar to unimaginable.
