SACRAMENTO - Colleen You, a resident of Belmont, is the new president-elect of the California ColleenYoumug State PTA. The association has nearly 1 million members throughout the state and is headquartered in Sacramento.

You was elected to the two-year term of office, which began July 1, at the association's 112th annual convention in Long Beach  this spring. She has served as vice president for health and vice president for parent involvement during many years as an active PTA member.

"I am honored to work with an association that does so much to improve the lives of children every day," You said. "I'm excited to dedicate myself to PTA's work on all issues that affect the whole child, including education, health, safe communities, and parent engagement. It's especially rewarding to me to support and mentor emerging PTA leaders to help them to work even more effectively on all these issues."

In her extensive California State PTA experience, You has served as vice president for health, vice president for parent involvement, leadership services commissioner and on many committees. She is also past president of Seventeenth District PTA, San Mateo County, served her community for 4 1/2 years as a local school board member, and over the past 18 years has held numerous PTA positions in elementary, middle, and high school PTAs.
