Legislative Action Alert
September 24, 2010

ACTION NEEDED:
Contact your federal representatives today to save
critical school nutrition programs before they expire on
September 30!

This week, the House of Representatives will vote on the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill.  This bipartisan legislation updates and improves a number of critical child nutrition programs including school breakfasts and lunches.  The Senate has already unanimously approved the bill on August 5.  However, this bill has yet to be adopted by the House and time is rapidly running out to pass this important piece of legislation before the programs expire on September 30.  We need your help in urging your representatives to support the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill.

The Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill takes many critical steps toward alleviating child hunger and supporting the health and wellness of our nation's children.  This bill contains common-sense measures that will increase access to critical nutrition programs, improve the quality of foods served in schools, and provide the resources, tools and training necessary to accomplish these goals.  If the House does not pass this legislation soon, then all these improvements will be lost.

More than 3 million of California's school children depend on federal child nutrition programs to provide up to one-half of their nutrient intake per day.  Adequate nutrition improves school attendance, learning, behavior and productivity.

Take Action Today!
