Children benefit when the men in their lives join PTA
Why join?

Randy Ward, San Diego County Superintendent of Schools, says:

"PTA membership increases parents' ability to help their children. The PTA is an invaluable partner for children and families."

Consider sharing this quote with the fathers and other men in your school community when you ask them to join your PTA and help you to promote PTA membership.

Men are half the population, and it takes all of us to make a difference for children.

When more men belong to your PTA, it sends a clear message to children that we are all working together to do everything we can to help them to succeed, in school and in life.

In a survey of male PTA members, 81 percent said they joined to improve school for the benefit of their children.

Ask men directly to join. The fathers, uncles, grandfathers and other men in your school community can strengthen your PTA.

Encourage your women members to ask the men in their families to join. Surveys show that many men join because the women in their lives asked them to.

When you ask men to join:

  • Remind them that their support is crucial to boosting their children's chances for success in school.
  • Let them know that you value their membership. Remind them that, like all members, they can control how much time they give and in what ways they will contribute.
  • Remind them that joining PTA is a great way to become the role models they want to be. Although "lack of time" is often cited as a reason for not joining, being a PTA member is the most efficient way to get up-to-speed on ways to help your children.
