Members ahoy!

Plan now to get a head start on the new school year. Your membership campaign and the first invitation
people receive will set the tone for participation in the coming year. Discuss
how you will promote your PTA and how you will invite

You've got mail - Service Mailing
The California State
PTA Service Mailing will be on it's way to PTA presidents' mailboxes beginning
late July. Be sure to open it immediately, review it and share the contents
with your PTA board members. It's full of resources to start the year off
right.
If you receive the
mailing as the immediate past president, please give the mailing to the new
president. Then promptly advise the PTA council or district leadership of the
unit's new officers, including contact information. This information is used by
the California State PTA to provide timely information for a successful year to
every PTA in California.
If the unit president
doesn't received the mailing by mid-August contact the immediate past president
and your PTA district president immediately. If you don't know whom to contact, send an e-mail to info@capta.org.

File tax forms now!
The
last day to file tax forms is 4½ months after the end of your fiscal year. For
PTAs that end their year June 30, that date is November 15 - but why wait? The
year-end audit gives you most of the information you need. All board members are
responsible for seeing these vital forms are filed. This is the third year all
PTAs have had to file taxes, and the year the IRS will start pulling tax-exempt
status of those that have not complied - make
sure your PTA is not in danger! For more information, click here.

PSA pizazz!
Take
advantage of the donation of professional public service announcements (PSAs), made in collaboration with the Pearson Foundation, to expand the outreach of your PTA or PTSA. Use them on websites of your school,
district, county office of education, on TV, at movie theaters - wherever works
to reach your target audience. Then share your campaign success! We want to
hear when these PSAs are used. E-mail info@capta.org
whenever you spot a PSA!

Correction
The June "PTA Connects" had incorrect
information about filling a board vacancy. In
the case of a vacancy in elected positions named in your bylaws (Article V,
Section 2), the position is filled by the incoming board electing the new board member, not by appointment. Only appointed positions, such as
parliamentarian, are filled by presidential appointment, followed by board
ratification. For more information, check your bylaws (Article V, Sections 11
and 12).
