Countdown to Convention

April 29-May 2 in Sacramento

To run great programs, invest in training for members, incoming officers and key chairmen at convention.

Here are some highlights for California State PTA Convention 2010:

Workshops: Most first-timers come for the foundational training, good-to-know subjects and hot topic updates. Most of these 85 sessions are led by professionals volunteering their time for PTA.

Reflections: Top young artists perform their award-winning works Friday and Saturday evening, and winning entries are on display throughout the convention.

Rally on the Capitol: Thursday from 2-3:30 p.m. PTA members from all over the state will converge at the Capitol steps in a pro-education show of parent power!

The exhibit hall: A football field-sized room filled with vendors and information booths - an amazing array of tasty samples and raffle opportunities. Entry will be open and free to non-convention-goers on Thursday.

■   Sleep in for PTA: In recognition of the importance of sleep for children and adults, Sunday activities will start at 9:30 a.m. Buy a sleep shirt to support PTA Healthy Lifestyles Grants.

PTA store: All your PTA supplies, spirit wear and office extras are available at the PTA Store each day.

Ribbons! Membership winners, first-timers and others get colorful ribbons to wear on their convention badge. Ward off ribbon envy by buying the Ribbon Pack when you register!

Candidates forum: The next Superintendent of Public Instruction will face many challenges. Here is your chance to make an informed choice in November. Submit questions to spiforum@capta.org.

Can't get enough?
