Membership:  It Doesn't Just Happen

A thriving membership requires good planning and year-round attention. Now that school is back in session, PTAs everywhere are celebrating September as PTA Membership Month by recruiting members at their school and in their communities.

Every PTA event is an opportunity to recruit new members, and every school volunteer is a potential PTA member or supporter! Successful membership drives are essential for bringing new volunteers and excitement to your PTA. Help PTA improve student success! Unify your community by partnering with families, local businesses and organizations. See Partnering Ideas for PTAs  and Program Ideas for PTA that involve and strengthen your school community.

Remember, the No. 1 reason that people don't join is that they were never asked. Whom did you ask today?

Ask students to join PTA!

Students are eager to be involved in implementing positive change. Inviting students to join PTA/PTSA is an excellent way to encourage their support and participation as stakeholders in their school community. Through their involvement, students gain leadership skills, receive community service opportunities, and are introduced to the legislative process and the importance of advocating for a cause.

Do you know of a student who would be interested in serving for one year as a member of the California State PTA Board of Managers? Act now! Applications are due March 15, 2010.

Let's fight the flu together!
